The "mysterious" Jailer

Does anybody else find it a little annoying that Blizz labels the Jailer as mysterious? If he is so mysterious, isn’t that a conclusion we should reach without them labeling him as such? It would be like Stephen King calling a character the scary such and such. I mean, good writing should create a desire to know more, thus making him mysterious.

…But isn’t the whole point that the Jailer, and all of the afterlife stuff, is that it’s out of left field? I mean, I’m not calling that good writing, but it’s just a matter of being more marketable than “this guy we just made up”/“these places we’re retconning in”.

A dead-titan probably,

I feel like this is splitting hairs. All we saw as a preview. There was no writing to be had. The cinematic showed us a black figure looming and massive in size standing behind Sylvanas with blue, glowy eyes that look like lichfire.

I don’t see nothing wrong with that being labeled as mysterious. We got a year-early preview. It’s fine if they lead it a bit.

A mysterious label isn’t a bad thing. It’s just a way to describe him since he is a mystery and emphasizes how little we actually know about him. Games tend to add dramatic flares.

We’ve already seen concept art for him. He just looks like Aman’thul, or the Ice King from Adventure Time.

It’s obvious the Jailor is Heavy Metal Knight from the Darkmoon faire.

Right, but the OP is discussing Blizzard’s labeling of him. Not something that was leaked after people signed an NDA. From what Blizzard showed us, that concept art means nothing.

Edit: I would also put that under a Spoiler tag considering not everyone surfs the internet. Some people might not know anything about what you’ve stated.

It absolutely is splitting hairs. I actually love most of the things Blizzard has done with WoW, I just don’t like authors writing things such as “Who is this mysterious jailer?” If the story is good, it should lead us to want to know. It’s like they are trying to tell us what they want us to get from their writing rather than letting the writing do it on its own.

They already told us that the jailor is a new character that we haven’t met before. So I’m not sure why people are that interested in trying to guess his identity or figure out who he is. He is the jailor. A new character.

In a way I agree that it’s bad that Blizz has called him mysterious because people are getting hyped up for the jailor and will probably be let down as a result.

But there is no story. All we got was a teaser. Of course we’re gonna be lead a bit during a teaser. The story right now is our tentacle overlord is about to come outta the water and be super pissed. There isn’t even a hint of the Shadowlands aside from the cinematic we got shown ovwer 9 months ahead of when it’s supposed to actually come out.

Where is this quote coming from?
To what story are you referring?
Has there been a novel or short story published?

the only thing he has in common is that he is a huminoid with a beard…

I’ve found him!

Exactly! The fact that we have been told nothing of this Jailer is what makes him mysterious. If that isn’t enough to make him mysterious, then Blizz isn’t doing a good enough job making us want to know more. But I think people, for the most part, do find this absence of information to be mysterious, so therefore the label is unnecessary and kind of lame.

He’s terribly mysterious and he can cut guns in half with his mind.

I’m gonna be honest. I feel like you’re just looking for a reason to complain. It’s a label thrown on someone we know nothing about for the sake of just being there. Not some greater purpose in story telling that you’re trying to claim it is to, in some roundabout way, make up for lackluster story telling.

Almost every press release or anything from Blizz that mentions the Jailer has called him the mysterious jailer. There isn’t any story yet, as far as I know, which is the issue. Let us come to our own determination that we find the identity of the jailer to be mysterious. The fact that we are all looking for leaks is enough to consider him mysterious. It makes it lame when Blizz labels him mysterious.

I heard he’s sick. My best friend’s sister’s boyfriend’s brother’s girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who’s going with the girl who saw The Jailer pass out at 31 Flavors last night. I guess it’s pretty serious.
