“The Orc race originated from the planet Dreanor. A peaceful people with shamanistic beliefs.”
A Peaceful People.
Oh yes, The WARsong Clan were certainly all peaceful and hippie shamans right?
I like to ask the Ghosts of dead Ogres in Gorgrond how truly peaceful the Blackrock Clan was to them. Blackhand only wanted to initiate diplomacy…with an Axe.
I really don’t understand why Blizzard goes to such lengths to whitewash races, characters, and histories. It’s very clear that no one on their writing staff has the talent for nuance or realism. That any of those aforementioned qualities were accidental byproducts, and not actual attempts at creating a world.
To be fair there were reletively peaceful clans like the Shadowmoon and technically Frostwolf clans. The latter as far as I know did fight in wars but were not a pure warlike culture.
Ahh. The awkwardness that comes from wanting to make your first villains into heroes and then having new people come in decades later to go “but what if we didn’t do that?”
Weren’t Doomhammer and co. portrayed as warmongering like the rest of the orcs in novels such as Day of the Dragon etc. and it wasn’t until the days leading up to WoD when Durotan and co were retconned into being good orcs who never drank demon blood?
It’s as if the new writers sat down and saw “Heroic peace loving Orcs” in the description and thought, “but what if the Orcs were actually bloodthirsty warmongering monsters. I bet no one has ever done THAT before.”
And this is why there were horde players who saw WoD as a recon to make the Orcs look worse. What your reading was the original lore and history before Blizzard they needed more ‘Savage’.
Which in itself was a retcon! The original orcs in Warcraft 1 and 2 were generally evil as heck. If anything Chronicles/WoD just returned them to their savage roots.
