I don’t understand why Blizz intends on spending weeks or months of dev time, developing things that a large portion of the players interacting with those things do not and will not like.
Majority of MM players want to play without a pet, and those that want to use a pet, should be able to.
You can literally see it in your analytics. You have the data.
The only reason most people still use a pet is for Lust, aside from those that just like pets for theme or RP.
So how about just give MM a Lust ability, if they have Lone Wolf selected?
Or just get rid of Lust from Hunters and give them some other party/raid wide utility perhaps?
Why are we not having polls or surveys done within the hunter forums about different fantasies or gameplay mechanics before they are even started?
The players on forums, are those invested in the classes/specs, this is the place to start looking for feedback about design.
We would probably have a really well designed, unique spec to play if they did that years ago.
But instead, let’s develop something with not a single piece of evidence about what players like or want, and then when it fails, either force it on everyone or revert it, and leave the class or spec behind for a few more years.
START RUNNING POLLS ABOUT CLASS/SPEC DESIGN
WHETHER ITS ABOUT GAMEPLAY MECHANICS, ABILITY INTERACTIONS, BUTTON BLOAT, LACK OF BUTTONS, FANTASY, THEME, VISUALS, IT DOESNT MATTER, START INTERACTING WITH THE PLAYERS FIRST BEFORE WASTING TIME ON SOMETHING.
You mean like they did with Survival spec in Legion? I know Bepples is out there, laughing.
Already BTDT. Question is: will you fall for it the 2nd time or would you be “smart” enough to understand you never belonged?
Democracy makes them itch.
Because you’re ignoring the other shortcomings of the rest of the profile. What was all the “sniper” talk Blizz picked up on MM class fantasy discussion about?
You’re missing the point that the standard layout was not cutting the mustard. And I’m glad that Blizz is not listening to the wrong people this time. I’m sure new people on the team probably has something to do with it.
holy moly no absolutely not. this is how we got the slop that was grimrail and docks back in shadowlands season 4. we should not give people who dont run any content the ability to decide on it
For just a moment let’s pretend the Hunter’s Lodge is a real place and is visited by players that play that class. Now let’s pretend there was the Annual “I have played hunter for at least 30 seconds” Convention happening right now. Go up to center stage during the opening ceremony and say “Survival should be a Ranged Spec, what are your thoughts?” How do you think that would turn out? Think about the children before you respond. THINK ABOUT THE CHILDREN!
and those that want to use a pet, should be able to.
If you have a taunt bot pet you micro manage you need to understand that you not only lose 4-5 keybinds to pet management summoning healing reviving, dismissing attacking following buttons for your screen but you also are balancing around having a taunt bot pet therefore you dont need the mobility or utility to survive without a taunt bot pet. So hunter is balanced around having a taunt bot spell\utility wise in solo content.
On top of that spells in the UI they obviously have a limit so all that bloat from pet management also takes away from other spells we could have to fill our screen.
I find it hard to see blizzard adding a pet back before they rework MM to allow it to play alone without a pet and do well in solo challenges\world content.
Blizzard will know right away if this rework is successfully or not based on there own statistics next patch. We can see ourself based on raid\mplus numbers. I find it hard to believe MM is going to be less popular after the rework considering its prob the most unpopular its ever been right now.
Right now its just a BM hunter but with 3-4 spells swapped out. This change gives it identity as an actual ranger\gunner rather than a BM hunter with rapid fire\aimshot.
So for the majority of players, who are not in M+ or raids. Those who are doing WQ, delves, leveling, ect. The “sniper” fantasy of shooting something in melee range because you don’t have a pet to tank?
If you are doing Delves, you will have Brand tanking. If you are doing WQ or Open world, you got the best mobility in the game. There are many other RDPS classes who have survived that content without a pet. It does not invalidate the class.
Yes, it’ll be rough for the first few months for those players - who probably don’t even know this is coming. But I doubt it’ll be the end of the class.
I think it’s more likely that the change will just funnel even more players into BM. Why kite anything when you can just do a 4 button rotation and get the “sniper” fantasy from BM.
I’ve seen it in Call of Duty and Battlefield all the time, not to mention Counter-Strike and Rainbow Six. All the military and paramilitary shooters do it…
WoW is an MMORPG, not an FPS. It’s like comparing oranges with basketballs. Sure, I guess they both roll down a hill much like WoW and CoD both feature guns.
The Sniper nonsense should have never happened.
MM should have been a spec themed after pre-void Alleria, and been a mobile archer.
As far as the standard layout not cutting the mustard.
You’re right it wasn’t and isn’t.
But acting like an ethereal, immortal bird that swoops in to mark enemies is the only thing MM needed would be naive at best.
I think you missed the point entirely.
MM is going to play almost identical to now except we are going to react to a mark on enemies.
We received zero new shots or skills, except the lust ability which isn’t exactly “new”.
Luckily we are getting huge buffs to our Auto Shot which is great, but again, that should’ve already been the standard for a martial class.
The dungeons are fine, if you’re that angry about dungeons in the m+ rotation, you need to get that checked out.
I agree, we shouldn’t give people who don’t play MM the ability to decide on it (like the devs doing this redesign or hunters cosplaying paladins).
You know…you can just set requirements to vote right?
Like requiring a max level Hunter, M+ rating, Heroic Raid full clear or higher.
There is technology for such things.
Because some people dont enjoy micro managing a pet sending it in to taunt your target while you just dps. Kiting is fun, for those that dont know how to kite they can learn or play BM
The numbers will speak for themself next patch if its successful or not.
That is patently untrue. Blizz aren’t going to do stuff just just because they are feeling bored. Like it or not, this rework started life because MM Hunters have long asked for changes.
I’m sure nobody actually thought they’d remove the pet altogether, but if that’s the price of getting a much needed rework, people need to or should adapt.
There is such a thing as hip fire. You probably should have said it’s like comparing oranges with grapefruits. Oranges and grapefruit have “different stats” despite that they have a common identity…
Well, it happened anyway in the forums and the Blues took note. We can’t overlook that Microsoft’s now on-board and supposedly ready to work hard after a nice holiday break.
This was due to the controversial Rapid Fire system we used from BFA to present day. A lot of feedback was against it, and oddly enough Blizz kept doubling down on it. RFire has been in play for almost 4 expansions including this one.
This is after the DF-era new talent system, by the way. Remember how MM never got a rework back then? Pepperidge Farm remembers and calls that a rookie memory.
A lot of the new stuff already came from what came down the pipe of DF and TWW.
We had MtS from Legion so any old fart who mained MM from that era remembers.
Not THAT long ago, people complained about that DKR Black Arrow double Mastery bug. That’s a memory now from 2024. Now they’re complaining about the new DKRMM before it even got up off the ground. Play the flute, did not dance. Sang a lament, didn’t mourn.
