That isn’t min/max as I see it applied in this game. People go to extremes, every single decision or piece of gear or use of time is dedicated to performance output in this game by some people. Those are min/maxers - not someone who looks at icy veins to determine stats weights.
Those guys looking an icy veins aren’t the ones coming on here and fretting they might lose out on 1 or 2% dps.
The reality of min-maxing is so baked into WoW that of course you don’t see stuff like “choosing the right talents or the right gems” as min-maxing, even though that’s what it is.
You see the absolute extreme of min-maxing as the standard, and while few people do go to such extremes as simming every single item for every single scenario to eek out those few extra hundred DPS, but the reality is that the standard for min-maxing is absolutely checking Icy Veins to see what’s good, or Warcraft Logs to see what talent setup the best performers are running for that fight.
And it’s not just 5% of players doing that.
If you’ve ever chosen Haste or Crit over Versatility, because those stats do more for you even though all three are beneficial, you have min-maxed to at least some degree.
Tivoli is absolutely correct. Min-maxing is like an onion, it’s got layers and just cause the outer ones aren’t as smelly, doesn’t mean they’re not part of it.
Those people who pick haste over crit aren’t the ones coming on here complaining about covenants, and azerite and corruptions and legendaries, etc. Those are a very specialized group of people. I actually think those people are OCD that do things to that extreme, should I be using that term to describe them. I bet some of them actually can’t sleep at night over the thought of choosing the wrong covenant.
By your definition and Tivoli’s I would be a min/max and I am far far too lazy for that. In any case, this thread isn’t about that type anyway - it is about the obsessive type.
You more than likely are. The amount of people in this game who don’t min-max to at least some degree are absolutely minuscule. They’re the people who never gem or socket their gear, and they literally don’t care about anything except ilvl or rarity. A blue must always be better than a green, and a 400 item must be better than a 380.
You’re confusing the most extreme subset for the norm. Think of it like religion. There might be a huge gap between your average Christian, and your genuine Dues Vulter, but fundamentally you’re both still following the same religion.
Here is the true.
Interesting …
Its funny how YOUR highest secondary stat is Mastery at 48% whats destro lock best stat again ?
You also have 3 Flashpoint Azerite Traits whats Destro lock best trait ?
The fact that you enchanted both your rings with 60 Mastery is literally min - maxing LOL
Those aren’t the 2-5% advantage though - a lot of that is far more than 5%.
What do you think happen when you min-max lets say 2-5% increase every time ?
Do you think the OVERALL increase will always remain at 2-5% ?
What difference happens when you do none of that? It is easy to select a piece of gear based on stat priority or to enchant a ring. It is a whole other case when you grind out those visions to socket every piece of gear or go and do content you hate to get an essence. Or come on the forum to complain about covenants and the hardship it is going to cause.
It is silly to pass up free dps when you don’t bother with all those others.
He has
13% Crit
17% Haste
19% vers
and 48% mastery his best stat
The fact that his highest stat is his BEST stat and he prioritize enchanting mastery THAT is MIN-MAXING
His gem is versatility. All those are easy to get just by playing.
So going for the best traits and stats is not min-maxing cause he have 1 vers gem ok flawless logic…
Some people take min-maxing to the extreme but other don’t. Hes not on the extreme but he is still min-maxing
Delete your upgrades if min/max is so toxic
Who do you think wrote the guide and simmed the stat weights on icy veins?
If you are copying a min maxer are you not trying to min max?
Nobody is fretting about 1 or 2% dps. That would be a small enough difference even the min maxers wouldn’t care. That is essentially racials.
What people are concerned about is a 10 or 20% difference in power, which is more in line with what the difference between BiS and garbage azerite, or your best vs worst essence, or legendaries, or corruptions, or pretty much all the systems we have seen in the last few expansions.
If you think covenants are a 1 or 2% difference you haven’t been paying attention to beta.
