The Megaserver experiment has failed: zero community

No, it’s just not worth arguing with someone so deficient.

That’s not true. I’ve experienced some good server communities in Classic. But Blizz locked and killed those servers.

Players had the opportunity to join communities and contribute to them.

Laid Back PvP Server
Sweaty PvP Server
RP Server
Casual PvE Server
Serious PvE Server
Streamer Server, etc etc.

Even in 2019, people continued to choose these communities. The ‘megaservers’ were created by CHOICE. Those who wanted that experience went to it.

Those who wanted certain communities had that option to go where they wanted.

Now its forced upon us.

Folks say ‘Discord’, but what happens when ABSOLUTE toxic guild snags it and makes it the ‘official’ discord? The moderation is disgusting and pretty much non existent.

What kind of community do you think that fosters?

A horrible one.

As opposed to?

I opted to roll on Maladath when they opened it. It was a great community. I never had any problems finding groups, guilds were raiding, and the economy was good. Then Blizzard decided to shut it down and send us all to Westfall. Then they shut Westfall down and sent us all to Pagle. Anyone who claims these servers were dead is out of their mind. They weren’t mega communities, and we liked it that way.

Meanwhile, there ARE servers that need attention that Blizzard ignores. They have always sucked at maintaining servers. Always.

That doesn’t surprise me, you were prob in one of the guilds who never cleared naxx

You couldn’t find anyone decent enough to do normal ulduar there, and flasks/potions were 4x the price of pagle. I know this because I had 200k gold there when ulduar dropped

Maladath was 100% dead and the people that stayed were bad

There were only like 5 decent guilds there and I raided in all of them except therapy, I even did some horrible pug runs with booty bay dock saints. Call me a troll if you want but you weren’t actually on maladath if you think it wasn’t a dead server.

Also the community on there was super toxic and a few of the guilds would mass report people to get them chat silenced as punishment for not doing things the way they wanted.

That’s the thing I don’t understand with these dorks.
They sit in barrens chat and say “Dead server”.

Bro you’re level 15 just re-roll.

Jarl’s posts always make me want to play a filthy human Warrior to join in the fun over there on Grobb.

On point with the truth about community, server sizes and how players ruined good servers with FOMO.

@thread - players have to be the community they want. If you give in because you see everyone as a random that doesn’t matter that’s not a solution. It’s nice to join a server that already has that going on, but if it doesn’t you can at least try.

Oh I’ve been trying.
I help randos, I give randos gear/items that I don’t really need and it’s clear they do, and I generally try to make the server awesome and encourage others to do the same.

I never set my hearth so I pop up in The Valley of Trials and I’ve made a habit out of giving the first level 10 that’s clearly not an alt I see at Razor Hill my vendor trash.

That’s between 3-20g for a level 10.

Edit:
I don’t hearth frequently, I play for a long enough session that I just go to an Inn or back to Org when I want to log.

Chaos Bolt was about the best server for community and raiding you could get with balanced pvp

Nah, arbitrarily imposed game mechanics like layering prevent a community from sprouting organically.

yep, megaserver is trash.
horribly toxic people face zero reprocussions

It’s too bad they didn’t do forced PVP server balanced with Classic 2019.
We would have had a bunch of Thriving servers instead of verybody piling onto the same 5 servers and faction disparity.

there are work arounds. At my lunch time play the guild I am puts up notices by layers.

The guild chat is universal. so they post up something is resetting layer 2 soon as an example.

its a perspective thing really. I came from eve. You can be on with 100’s of corp members on. And be nowhere near them really. several hundred systems gives a bit of room to wander. the community is still there. If players make it work.

That’s great for EVE, but WoW was not designed that way. A guild is not a replacement for a server community.

What you’re referring to is Nova World Buffs which barfs into chats when the World Buffs reset and on which layer. That’s just for the hand-in. The WBuffs themselves go on every layer(most of the time).

Blizz handles these servers backwards. If they think the population isn’t quite as high as it should be…you don’t lock the server and allow free transfers off. That just kills it. You open free transfers to that server. The megaservers are the ones they should have locked. And Maladath rocked. Especially towards the end of Wrath.

They did the same thing to Lava Lash in SoD, and that sever had plenty of people when it got locked. That one made no sense. Just shows Blizz’s definition of ‘a healthy server size’ is completely warped.
