Pretty much this entire expansion I have avoided The Maw zone. I’ve only did things I was required to do, in order to progress my covenant campaign or something like that.
Why? Because so many big content creators and streamers said it was bad and not worth my time. I guess in a sense I let them make up my mind about it before I even gave it a real shot. This is completely on me, I am fully aware of that.
Now that I actually decided to pick up a few quests for the area and give it a shot because I am simply running out of things to do in the game that I enjoy. (I normally only really PvP, but it’s been hard to find RBG groups in LFG at 1800+)
Is The Maw amazing? No. But at least for me personally, it’s not nearly as bad that these big content creators make it out to be.
I just thought I’d share my thoughts regarding this because I kind of got myself in a mind trap, assuming that if all these massive content creators for WoW all say that something is terrible, then it’s terrible.
Maybe for you personally it actually is as bad as they say, but if you are running out of things to do in WoW that you enjoy, and you are like me and haven’t actually tried some of the things WoW has to offer (anything, not just saying The Maw), and haven’t because all you’ve seen is how bad it is… Give it a shot yourself, your personal opinion may differ.
Have a wonderful day everyone, stay safe and have fun!

Do I think it’s as bad as the memes say it is? No. Do I think it’s worth going and doing? Also no.
I derive no pleasure or joy from the Maw, and if I became bored of everything else, I’d just move on to a different game. The Maw isn’t worth trying to entertain myself with.

It’s a lot better with the mount, but that’s not saying much lol.

I was hoping to see why you think the Maw is good but this was just one really long-winded tldr “Maw is good content creators bad”.

Fortunately I haven’t run out of things to do that I enjoy in WoW, I have just run out of things I enjoy in Shadowlands. I’d rather be fishin’ than putz around in the Maw. The rewards offered in the Maw don’t cater to me and what I want to do anyway. There is literally 0 reason to go into the Maw.

I got exalted with Venari on three characters before they made it account wide.
It’s not as bad as content creators said, it’s way worse. It’s intentionally bad.

Knocks on the watermelon to make sure it hasnt gone bad
Gratz on enjoying a zone / forced content that has pushed away probably a third of the player base. Contrarian can be fun!

It’s insanely boring even without the gimmicks. My top classes are hunter and Druid and even when trying the Maw on Worgen alts (who cheese the mount restriction with Running Wild) the Maw is still horrible. The “run back to your corpse” gimmick is completely toothless since you don’t have to loot your gear or lose exp like the old school MMOs or roguelikes it’s pretending to be, too.
It’s nothing we haven’t seen before by Blizz (Diablo). It’s not a theme we haven’t explored before in WoW (Death). It’s main gimmick of “no one escapes” is hilariously broken meta wise and in the story within 5 minutes and the ‘Maw Walker’ title feels even more hollow than BFA’s ‘Champion’ title when Oribos is as crowded with mortals as Times Square.
It’s just trash.

Unpopular Opinion: The Maw is my favorite end game zone ever.
My biggest complaint about the maw is Eye of the Jailer which I know is going away in 9.1
I’d spend more time there if not for the fact that you’re actually penalized for spending more time there.

the maw is okay at best. I like the concept of jailer’s eye timer but need way better content in general

I can’t stand it on toons I can’t mount on.
It’s not that bad on my druid because I can go doe form. It’s just not that exciting either.
The Maw is fine. The Eye is a really interesting mechanic. I think they probably took it too far by making it mount-less. Like, do one or the other but not both lol
I haven’t felt particularly motivated to spend time there since getting Appreciated.
The Maw is just sort of… Meh to me. It’s boring and tedious for the things it is good for – sockets and torghast buffs – and some of them, like the torghast buffs aren’t worth it after you got what you need from torghast. I don’t care if the vendors give me extra anima choices if I can already plow through it without that extra bit of help =/
Now, if the Maw gave some much stronger incentives to be used in the REST of wow, that’d be super cool. I would be in the maw day in and out if we could say, get special “maw-touched” potions that work in M+ or raids. Or maybe even temporary armour/weapon enchants that last 2-3 hours, or longer based on how much stygia you “infuse” the buff item with. Make the harder hitting dangerous mobs or events drop more of these useful items and then people can choose their own challenge.
As it is now? I barely have need to visit the maw for what I do.

This concerns me if people are basing their decisions off of what others say and not their own experiences.
Always try something on your own. You aren’t other people. You may love something others don’t. Or vice versa.
I grew up with the philosophy of try it once and decide from there, don’t let anyone else form your opinion on an activity or food for you.
The Maw is Argus as GTA, only there are parties, no hot fel draeni, no treasure chests, and it’s leader apparently a one trick pony disguised as Mr. Clean
Lesson of the story, stop putting so much weight in what others say, more importantly, the big ol’ content creators.
personally it’s a drab zone, not cause its supposed to be hell and all that but that they had an empty zone, then on the delay, shoved in some copy and paste stuff from bfa and voila, bobs your uncle.
i wasnt expecting something outstanding but i could swear that any one with an ounce of imagination and being a dev could make a better, more enjoyable hell zone.
what this felt like, with the eye of the jailer, the unlocking of a zone or w.e through venari, and just lack of anything interesting , all points to just game design by analytics. cold, calm, and collected game design lol courtesy of ion the android.

I got high enough for Torghast upgrades and that was good enough for me.
Some of my guildmaters are like “but sockets” and I’m like “meh”

I would prefer to never go to the maw or torghast ever again personally. Which is the main reason I’m not excited for 9.1
