The Maw is sucking the life out of me

This zone is the single worst thing I have ever experienced in this game. It is destroying any joy I had in this game.

The Jailer would smile as he read this title.

it’s a simple daily quest zone. Don’t even have to do quests, just kill rares. They’re all marked with handynotes

The Maw is about half of a good zone.

The design is neat, the hostile environment is fun, and the horizontal progression is clever.

The problem is that most of it is nestled behind time gating, which turns the place into a chore factory, and instead of organic difficulty being the biggest objective, the place simply gets harder as you complete objectives. And when I say ‘harder’ I don’t mean you have to get clever, I mean you have to not stand in the indicator for artillery, except World of Warcraft has the visual clarity of a car first thing on a foggy morning after it’s been left out so the indicator is gray. Like most of the zone.

It really isnt, the place is overwhelmingly hostile, which sucks even harder when you cant mount without slogging HOURS in the TW.

Like a lot of the enemies in the area are just really overtuned.

The phasing issues that Blizzard apparently wont even bother to fix.

Its boring? idk the aesthetic just isnt that appealing.

The time limit in the zone was a bad idea.

There just isnt much reward from it.

Blizzard has made “Daily quest” zones in the past way better than this, an example being the Timeless Isle.

i spent several hours trying to get a group for the summoning rares/elites and no one joined my group or had one listed. and, if they did, id have to run back to oribos

this has happened to me all week so i just do the grey skull mini-rares now

Also i can’t find any information on how hunts work. Are they like n’zoth assaults and rotate through them every few days?

I try not to be a Debby downer on shadowlands, but I 100% agree. I’m shocked that Blizzard created a zone so unlike able.

I like the grim atmosphere of the place, but there’s almost no reason to go there except to get your weekly souls (10-15 mins) or hit up Torghast if (and only if) you need soul ash. Otherwise there’s no reason to jump in that portal of light in Oribos. It really is a wasted zone with great atmosphere but otherwise worthless.

You have a worgen character though, with Running Wild. :slightly_smiling_face: Just do the Maw on your worgen/druid characters. My priest is never doing the Maw and thankfully never needs to because of my druid, and all the important Torghast upgrades are accountwide.

I can understand other players complaining about the lack of mounts, but if you have a worgen or druid, you really shouldn’t be.

Nope. The big damage abilities are avoidable/kickable. It’s only a problem if you try to pull multiple at a time like you would in the other zones, and thus can’t avoid/interrupt them all at the same time. So just pull 1-2 at a time, like intended. It’s supposed to be tougher than the rest of the SL zones.

It’s never getting fixed. Going back to Oribos/Torghast to reset the phasing is intended by Blizzard.

Disagree. Current iteration is fine. It’s basically a soft cap on the amount of rep you can earn per day, which is more flexible than just putting a fixed amount of dailies available every day. This way, you can plan to be much more efficient and be rewarded with more rep if you put in the extra effort.

The Torghast upgrade rewards are really good, and the gem slots are relatively quick to get for end-game players compared to previous expansions. I agree more cosmetic rewards would be nice though.

The Maw definitely could use some more work, but it does have pretty solid potential for the idea of it. More Ve’nari upgrades to ease travel around the Maw plus more rewards should put it in a much better place.

The Maw is dangerous. What you’re finding is, you don’t like that. It doesn’t mean The Maw is badly designed. I think its design is outstanding. But if you don’t like a dangerous zone where you have to be a little on edge, then you aren’t going to like it.

If you don’t like doing it, then simply don’t participate. The Maw is only there if you want to collect cosmetics. Don’t burn yourself out over a single piece of content.

I find the maw terrifying, and every time I see the souls that were destroyed to oblivion, I feel kinda bad for serving Sylvanas ya know?

I mean in all seriousness, if someone committed a crime against me in life, if I was God, I would just chuck them in Revendreth until they were sorry and be done with it, that seems fairer then chucking them into hell to be destroyed.

Stop running it, I stopped after 2 weeks I think

It’s supposed to be hostile, dangerous, and unpleasant. Gear fixes a lot of what may ail players here, and grouping absolutely trivializes the place.

As with everything, unless your hell bent on getting the sockets asap, there’s no practical reason to hammer on the dailies here… just hit your weekly quests, do one per day, and you won’t have to worry about Jailer debuffs either.

Working as intended?

so would Ion

Save yourself. Don’t do the Maw. I only go there once a week for souls and I’m happier for it.

Souls and done. Maybe the bonuses nearby since there anyway in the central area.

This is the way to happiness. Makes its 15 minutes soul respawns depending before you go back to content that doesn’t suck.

Like my new new alt…she did soul quest and left. I care not if the broker likes her. Hell, since the memory I need is not even coming up for weeks iirc on the world boss rotation I will only layer 2 her in torghast. I jsut need the ash for a 190. And I got 3 weeks IF rng likes me on that world boss.
