The massive tank problem in shadowlands

It’s a relevant question. You’re only interested in tank balance when your class isn’t on top.

Tire pump fixes that…or a can of Fix-A-Flat…hic!

If kiting is going to be the new way to tank, bring back

for the brewmasters. Brewmasters used to be the gods of kiting.

Necrotic feels really bad for me as a druid right now because I have to choose between Vortex and Typhoon, where as before I got both.

In some areas kiting just isn’t an option, so I just soak as many stacks as I can possibly mitigate until I die. I guess this doesn’t happen as much with Kyrians because of Phial and Kleia. I am not a Kyrian and would like Night Fae to be placed somewhere on that same spectrum.

I do not find M+ satisfying or rewarding anymore, for a variety of reasons explored elsewhere on these forums, so I am just taking the week off. Dealing with this… It is not worth the time or aggravation.

Before tough affixes were something I had to overcome. There were rewards for doing so. Now its something I have to tolerate and trudge through for probably no rewards.

I will say this: Terrible design.

Every RPG I’ve played unravels at the highest difficulty levels.

Vengeance will probably be naturally nerfed once we start hitting stuff that needs a face tank tank to do. So kiting won’t cut it, and vengeance would die. At that point, the baer and monks are going to creep up and overtake.

But generally agree. Would be nice to see some tuning that isn’t just “Hey let’s slap the best in this role until they’re garbage for a season”

Dude, I just want prot warriors to be able to hold threat against my enhancement.
I shouldn’t be playing so slowly I waste my stormbringer procs because I’ll yoink threat and get myself one shot.

Hmm. I had a foot race with a demon hunter once because he wanted to prove that he was faster than a guardian as flag carrier. The timer went off and he cast prison on me. I cast dash. By the time he completed the cast, I was already out of range, waiting for him to catch up with me at the finish line.

Could be worse, they’re sitting mid-tier where ret has sat nearly every tier since wrath.

I haven’t tanked M+ recently, but I’ve never been terribly fond of tanks kiting to begin with unless it was for a specific reason like dropping necrotic stacks or something. If tanks can’t actually, ya know, tank then what’s the point of being one?

If I remember correctly, Cata started out the same way with tanks taking a major whooping until gear caught up.

This expansion is pretty much Cata on roids mixed with a little red bull due to the insane amount of group wide damage.

I mean Ozruk earned his title of Pug Breaker just due to how crazy he was at the start. I can’t imagine if Ozruk was a mythic + boss nowadays.

I mean, there is a Prot Warrior sitting pretty high on Raider IO with +18 completions. Here’s the actual issue IMO:

The big brain high end players figured out that DH can do mad damage while also being able to kite very well, which allows high end M+ers to hit the DPS required to time keys with pretty terrible gear overall.

This filtered down and everybody thinks that DH is the meta and only good tank. Problem is, where 99% of the players enjoy the game all the tanks are actually fine, with little issues here and there.

They should never adjust classes based on the top end of M+, and the community’s tendency to jump on FOTM. Some things get ultra busted in small group settings with clever use of mechanics and high amounts of coordination. If there is decent class diversity at +15 mid way through the season, Blizzard has tuned things appropriately.

Also as I said above, our gear sucks right now. It’s why tanks are getting eaten alive, which also skews more towards ultra mobile tanks like DH and monk, and generally high amounts of CC from DPS/heals. As we gear, this will be less of a problem and you’ll start to see more class diversity IMO.

I used to be a full time tank in wotlk doing all the raids in hard mode, tanking after wotlk to me became way too stressful so I changed to dps. I have thought about taking it back up again as a side spec but the community is crap and I just can’t get myself to try it. Maybe if it was a little easier and warrior tanks were better than they are now id try.

Wow. had no idea it was that one sided. Hope blizz buffs up the others to make them a bit more viable.

I switched to Unholy because Blood is just trash & i don’t feel like gearing up my DH, all Tank specs need a buff, but Blizz might just nerf VDH instead since it’s easier.

I didn’t enjoy monk tanking at all. I’ve since shelved it.

I did a world tour of M0 on my Prot Paladin, and shelved him as well. We were in week 2 of the expansion, and the community already had all sorts of expectations about routes. There wasn’t even a timer, but they acted like there was.

You expect all that, so not the end of the world.

On top of that I get trucked even with gear equal to the content I’m doing (say 184 for M0)? Yeah, no thanks. I feel like modern tanking peaked in legion. Remember legion bears? Remember how good prot paladins felt? Every tank was good, and had a spot in some form of content.

I don’t understand why removing our ability to carry groups was bad, and removed. Nor do I like the kiting meta. In TBC I carefully stacked certain stats, and geared my character to be a wall of no. I stood there and took the hits. Like a tank.

Nothing about how tanks play today feels tanky. Why are there 17 swirlies going on? Why is this happening on trash mobs, in non M+? I feel like they’ve lost the narrative. The experience they’ve created is not fun for tanks like it used to be.

I really haven’t seen this massive tank problem.

Most of the tanks I see are normal size.
