The mandatory use of discord has ruined the game

Having to use discord ruins the game, and many other games. Discord is not required to play this game and I understand that you all love to hear yourself talk but it requires more resources than needed for this game. There is an in voice chat that works if you feel obligated to talk amongst people rather than typing it out, use voice chat. Discord is as irrelevant as raider .io just just creates cliquish environments and feels like high school all over again. Some people play this game to have fun and are not really all about the social aspect of the game. I understand its an online game but there are tools at your disposal built into the game. If you want to post pictures of inappropriate images go elsewhere. then again multi-boxing is already allowed so arguing what is important and not in this game is already a lost cause.

Before Discord there were things like Ventrilo which people made mandatory for their groups.

Sure, you’re allowed to not use discord. Groups are also allowed to not bring you to anything challenging.

Also, there are fights in the new raid that literally require voice coms. Mekkatorque getting in the bots. You cannot type fast enough to get the info to the other players to do it properly.

Edit: Also, if you prefer to be without coms; might I suggest you make your own guild that doesn’t use them? Stop looking for other people to create solutions for you.

/intercepts the hug

Too slow, he is unworthy! Anyways, discord is nothing new. Before that there were always things like ventrilo or mumble being mandatory and required. And for raiding it does make sense, communication is actually important. It’s easier to talk than to type in the middle of a fight.

But it’s their groups and they can make whatever rules they want.

Discord is a very good quality voice chat. I largely prefer discord communities over in game guilds because the problem with in game guilds. If you get on another toon or you need to quite the game, you are cute off from friends and also guilds are server restricted. You don’t have to join discord. Just find a group that doesn’t require it. However chances are that just about all the highest end raiding guilds will require it and I don’t think it is wrong of them to do so. Raiding at a high level needs good communication and social activity.

Yeah, Voice Chat has ALWAYS been a staple of WoW. Before Discord, we had Vent, Mumble, Teamspeak, Skype for a lot of smaller groups (was very popular among CM and Arena groups).

Discord is just the new kid in town.

Edit: Though I really like that the community as a whole has switched to discord. It’s nice not having to have three seperate VOIP’s installed, or pugging and one person not having Teamspeak, or that they only used Vent.

And lets not forget about the crapshow that was Skype. My god that’s a terrible program.

I basically gave up pugging raids and etc for this reason. Even groups that don’t have Discord/voice checked end up asking for one of them and I just have no interest in sitting in a voice coms with guaranteed background noise that’s irritating even if the conversation is not.

Most of the time the chatter on there has nothing to do with the fight outside of something that could have been posted before the fight started in an easy macro.

What’s wrong with using discord? I prefer discord over the mandatory time commitment of being in a guild for X amount of time before even getting to get loot in raids.

I’ve been using some form of Voice chat since Vanilla. It’s pretty much required at a certain level of group content. It’s not really needed for Normal PuG’ Raids or even Heroic near the end of a Tier but it’s use isn’t some evil conspiracy.

Your are exaggerating

third party is liked for more than posting bad picture.

3rd party tends to offer way better admin options for control and such.

And yes its to have chats some would deem “bad” and not face blizzard crap. Enters the fun bit of what is actually bad. I have been temp suspended and a few posts pulled and yet to know why really. I just see my notifications, go oh well and press on.

Skype literally became unusable for me thanks to one of its forced updates going horribly wrong.

I’m glad Discord came along when it did.

then those people (you) can either make groups that suit you, or find groups that don’t require discord.

You can also, I supppose, keep preaching to everyone else about how they’re enjoying the game in a manner you do not like, but it won’t get the results you want.

I remember having vent, mumble, ts, Skype, and some other lesser known voice programs around.
Id rather keep discord.

If you don’t want to take part in the social aspect of the game don’t do content that requires you to be social? I think it is great that people want to be social if you don’t want to join them find another group. Asking them to cater to your special wants is childish.

Even when skype worked for 4 people, there was always that one person who couldn’t connect due to complications on their friends list, or just because skype flat out didn’t want to work.

Absolute garbage program and I’m glad the way it died like it did. Though it’s still decent enough for my grandmother to talk to friends and family who live hundreds, if not thousands of km’s away.

Ah Everquest. It’s what people used to play in nineteen dickity two.

We had to say dickety because the Kaiser had stolen our word for “twenty”!
