The main problem with Timewalking - is the gear

There have been a number of issues raised about TW dugeons - the bugs, the players, the varying difficulties, but to me one of the main problems is the gear drops.

The gear levels that drop are different depending on what level your character is. Take my level 54 hunter. The best he can hope for is ilevel 111. The problem here is that I can craft him ilevel 111 gear, so what reason would I take him into a TW dungeon, since he is not eligible for the 200 piece, not being level 60.

At levels above around 56-58 the gear increases up to around ilevel 135 at level 57. But by that time my character is earning ilevel 134, along with the possibility of things like legendary memory items. So an instance that is seemingly set to an heroic difficulty awards gear that is 1 point of ilevel higher than a normal dungeon.

The logic here escapes me. Effectively, this removes any real reason to do TW on characters under level 60. Why even make it available at those levels if there is no appropriate reward for doing it?

TW gear should be able to warforge.

I actually miss warforging. Titanforging was a bit much, but warforging was nice.

It still exists while leveling, too. I love seeing those little upgrades. It feels like it would be a really good system for anything outside of current progression content. Like, let end game progression stuff drop the best static ilvls.

But let everything else catch up to a normal raid or, at the very least, LFR or something.

Also, I never used TW while leveling. Do the pieces have the ability to upgrade like quest drops?

TW stand for time wasting.

TW Dungeons.

Yup.

I checked my currency and discovered i had 10,500 Timewalking Badges. So I hop on over to the TW vendor and lo and behold that was nothing, in 3 pages of gear I could use. Not even for transmog.

Guess I will not be running any more of those dungeons.

This isn’t actually titanforging. Sometime ago they put in a system where items from questing could proc up in quality. A green could go to a blue or even a purple and a blue could go to a purple. It was entirely random and occurs across the game but I can’t recall seeing it happen (as far as I know) from gear in dungeons or raids. It may, I just might not have got any or remember it happening.

This was a MoP thing that I actually campaigned for to happen while leveling. I was so happy when it did.

It’s a good feeling, right? I’m pretty sure it’s the same system as warforging, since both were introduced together, but I could be wrong. Also, I, too, haven’t really investigated whether or not this can happen with dungeon drops. I mostly level via questing in retail.

Either way, it would be nice to see something in Timewalking that made gear a little more relevant, I agree. I don’t even think the drops compete with level 60 quest gear.

It needs new mount rewards. We’ve been playing timewalking for a long time now. We need new mounts.

There are so many mounts thrown at us now, I’m sort of beyond caring about mounts. Gear, on the other hand, is always practical and nice to get.

That’s good that it is equal with crafting.
Professions already are kinda terrible as is.

I feel like TW is really just meant as a supplement to gearing alts but ultimately made for people who just want to pop in to check it out and have some fun.

The hyper focus on gear-drops is kinda getting outta hand, it blinds people from seeing the reason a piece of content was introduced in the first place.

Another problem, is it used to be a decent alternative for xp while leveling, instead of doing the same crappy mundane quests, current dungeons over, and over.

From what I can tell the only points in doing time walking is for the vendor buys. But you can also use it as a means of getting semi high-level gear if you finish the five runs in that week.

Not the greatest of points but not completely pointless

Some of the toys are pretty fun.

It don’t see it that way. There is nothing wrong with providing a reward for your efforts. That’s one of the problems with Torghast; something that takes that much time and effort should present the player with something beyond a bit of dust. Why was Torghast introduced? To be a challenge, certainly. But when is it wrong to expect a commesurate reward for a chellenge? The Mage Tower rewarded players with unique transmogs, and that was an excellent compromise.

As I pointed out, I was concerned with the lower levels who do not have access to the 5-run reward.

I love running timewalking with legendary gear and HoA and other fun stuff. It’s a good change of pace that lets me stretch out into nostalgia territory and get some MMO on.

The loot is paltry, true, but it’s fun to feel OP e dry couple of weeks as tank leading the dps meters!

The legendaries from earlier expansions don’t work anymore, I understand (at least the ones from Legion don’t). However, I wish I’d kept my Azerite gear, they do work and give some very nice abilities.

They do! The cloak from BFA works, the heart and azerite gear works, shadowmourne, etc. Legion legendaries are inop but they had good stats for some rings and sockets, too.

Also fun to play around with gear from older expansions with op sockets.

Wish I had saved my nya trinkets. I wonder if I did… I have the pocket protector/mechagon trinket and with the dps card in it (the beam) it’s pretty solid single target.

Sadly, the MoP cloak doesn’t work (other than its lovely dps wings). What I said was was the Legion legendary items don’t work. I know the neck does, the Azerite gear and the heart also - do the corruptions work? I can’t recall but I remember them saying they were deactivated completely at the end of BfA.

Corruption is removed with Shadowlands pre-patch, and I read this

…to mean all legendaries. Are you sure the MoPcloak doesn’t work anymore? This seems to suggest it still works.

Well, if it does, it’s never done it for me when I’ve had it equipped. I started wearing it during the first couple of TW in Shadowlands and when I saw no effect happening, I assumed it was turned off. If they changed it since then, that would be nice.

I have the dps one and the effect is easy to see, its this green blast that happens.
