If the Maelstrom is the result of the Well of Eternity exploding, why does it connect to Deepholme?
Deepholme is completely unrelated to the Well.
And also, why doesn’t the ocean water get into Deepholme from the Maelstrom?

The Stone Mother does not like getting her crystals wet so she re-routed it. As for Deepholme Azeroth is like a layer cake the Well of Eternity blew a hole on one layer and it opened to Deepholme.
The water travels through the center of the planet and comes out the other side at the same flow rate. On the opposite side there is a massive geyser spraying out all the falling water. That keeps the oceans full.
Just weird magic things.
Wasn’t Deepholme an elemental plane of Earth, not something actually beneath the Maelstrom? It’s been a while since I quested there. Since Cata, in fact.
Because the elemental planes are connected physically to Azeroth. The reason stuff doesn’t flow down there is the World Pillar that holds Azeroth up like Atlas.
Because Deathwing did it.
Water isn’t allowed into the elemental plane of earth. Union rules.
I wonder if that’s what makes all the storms the Arathi were complaining about.
