The M+ Problem With Aug Evoker and Blizzard's Solution

So the problem with M+ right now is every group wants an Aug Evoker and Blizzards solution is to continuously nerf Aug (and specs which benefit from them the most sad fire mage noises).

I think Blizzard’s solution in the short term is correct as there is only 1 support spec in game currently, but I do think the proper solution for the long term is more support specs/classes.

Aug Evokers have proven that support roles are viable in end game content and that M+'s comp in the future will be a 1 tank, 1 healer, 1 support and 2 DPS structure. So hopefully come time of 10.2.5 we can get 2-3 specs before the expansion is over and more for 11.0 (including a Bard or Tinker class).

Ideas for classes to get a support spec:

4th Monk spec that buffs party members with brews.

3rd DH spec which draws on the power of a Pit Lord to buff party members.

4th Paladin spec which gives out Blessings (might, kings, wisdom, etc) to buff allies and Seals to debuff enemies.

4th Mage spec which utilizes time magic to shorten CD’s and buff allies.

4th Shaman spec which buffs allies and hinders enemies with totems.

Actually, the solution is to basically ignore Augmentation and demolish other specs who benefit disproportionately from aug buffs.

But we all knew it would happen. :person_shrugging: The shiny new thing must be op :woman_shrugging: :man_shrugging:

In a perfect world we would have maybe 1 support, 1 healer, 3 DPS, and 1 tank. DPS shouldn’t be competing with support specs like augvoker

Anyone who has played games with supports could have told Blizzard releasing a single support spec that brings flat buffs to damage was a terrible idea. Didn’t even try to tweak it around mag or phys damage.

It’s now delete Aug or rush another support. Both are not great options.

Perhaps this, or take a look at the role of healers and tanks in dungeons. In other, more freeform, MMOs the tank is also the healer and the buffer for small groups. This is because tank damage is pitiful, and you get more out of them by squeezing everyone else for damage.

We had support specs, don’t see why we need to make more.
Just make shamans totems give buffs again and add back paladins buffs/judgement of light/wisdom.

Personally, I’m all for more support specs being added to the game. Focusing more on maintaining buff uptime and increasing your allies’ output’s a fun playstyle I’ve seen work in other MMOs, so it’s cool seeing Blizzard’s take on it with Augvoker.

I feel there’s a lot of cool ways they can expand upon it too. Augmentation’s great for DPS, but maybe other support specs could be geared towards boosting other secondaries or abilities for other specs outside of just DPS. Gives me early Chronomancer/Alacrity builds from GW2 vibes.

Augmentation should have been held out for 11.0 to be added with some new specs for other classes.

Adding them early just doesn’t help.

And I think the classes that should get a support spec first should be Mage, Warlock, Hunter, and Rogue, so they are no longer pure dps classes. Pure DPS classes used to have a purpose, and were tuned to be stronger than hybrid, but that’s no longer the case anymore. So pure dps classes are at a disadvantage compared to the hybrids now.

That, or give support specs to Mage, Warlock, and a couple others, then a tank/healer spec to Hunter/Rogue.

The solution is to nerf Aug to Enhancement Shaman’s level as a “support spec” and file this whole notion in the wastebin with the other Bad Ideas.
