It’s not fun but getting the Insane title isn’t fun either. Spending hours upon hours killing mobs for 1 rep gain or hours upon hours pick pocketing NPCs for lockboxes.
Some things are super rare. This mount is one of them.
There are over 700 obtainable mounts in the game. If you guys keep up with your current policy of mount bloat, there will be over 800 in the next xpac.
There is nothing wrong with one mount out of 700 to 800 being super rare. It’s the mount collector’s white whale.
If it was a mount we could run all year long, I would be right there with you…but it isn’t.
We are stuck on a stupid instance limit, and stuck to only 15 chances per character per year on that…VS 52 per year as with other characters…
Take a note from FFXIV. They run events all of the time, and people still participate even if they have the items. Your RNG solution is garbage and has been for years.
and if you do make changes please recolor it like the amani war bear to differentiate the people that farmed this on a zillion alts over the course of nearly a decade to get it vs people that get it handed to them!
I have the mount and got it in WoD. It’s ok but only really fun to pull out when I was playing with a guy who farmed it every bit as hard as I did (albeit with less toons but 22 or 24 max levels vs my 36 max leveled at the time).
It should, like all holiday mounts and even raid mounts, have had a currency attached and eventually be purchasable. FFXIV, the number 1 MMO currently, gets this and offers players an alternate means to obtain RNG mounts after a time (something like 100 runs or so).
Nobody actually worked hard to get this mount. They might have PREPARED hard, but the actual effort involved in downing the boss itself is not even worth a golf clap. It doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near this level of scarcity.
While you are at it Blizzard, why don’t you stop being donkeyhats and buff the drop rates of the MoP world bosses while you’re at it? Let things be super rare for the worthless special snowflake types, but as soon as things hit legacy status, just let anyone who wants them have them.
Make mounts with random percent drop chance (ex. 1% drop chance) also have a deterministic chance as well. An example such as, if a mount has a 1% drop chance, have it so after killing it 100 or so times with your account, it’s guaranteed drop.
Nope. I indeed did not at all suggest mounts to be 50% drop rate. You pulled that right out of your rear end.
Fallen charged is also not a unique model. There is in fact two other reskins of it. One comes from an achievement one comes from mythic The Nine.
You’re also confusing the issue. The issue is fun. Variety is fun but that doesnt mean it is completely fun. IE waiting for a mount to drop, off a rare that you need to wait for to spawn, for weeks at a time is very much not a fun experience.
Appreciate all the mansplaining after not understanding the crux of the issue though.
A comment like this one is obviously going to be subjective, but I would argue that when mounts are obtained from killing a rare or boss, the drop rate should never be less than 1%. A calculation of the cumulative probability in this case suggests that the mount collector will need at most 300 rolls 95% of time to be successful. As a very experienced mount collector, I can say that this percentage allows one to experience the full range of emotions from luck to despair… in a good way without things becoming absurd. Even mount drops at .5% deteriorate gameplay. For instance, killing Rustfeather close to 600 times to obtain the Junkheap Drifter did absolutely nothing to enhance my enjoyment of the game. Mounts with even lower probabilities make things even worse. The X-45 Heartbreaker is an obvious example, but the four MoP world boss mounts, the Solar Spirehawk from WoD, and the infinite timereaver are other examples. There is something deeply obscene being among all those players still killing the Sha of Anger every week for the mount. Ultimately, I believe that the developers need to stop artificially inflating the time that it takes mount collectors to get mounts, and instead them trust them to do something else in game once they get the drop that they were looking for. Otherwise, I encourage them to keep presenting a variety of mechanisms to obtain mounts. Different quest chains, achievements, professions, puzzles, and other means keep things fresh and make me want to continue collecting.
YES YES Yes! Was just going to type the same thing “Please…remove the 10 per hour instance lockout!” Not that it will ever drop even if you have 100 toons…but…please!
this mount currently is the lowes point for the RNG bar between 0.03% and 100% chance… it’s just imposible for a player using only one character to beat the odds, game should be designed around getting it eventually if you try it enough, they could remove the daily lockout as solution, however it’ll cause a burn out effect on an awful boss fight.
True that’s another issue,SL already has double the amount of mounts from BFA, we don’t need that amount of mounts.
White whale should be the 700 mount achievement Mount with an unique model, not the RNG any player with extreme luck can get while other players do 50 + attempts per day.
It would be awesome to also tune the Drop Chance on the Mists of Pandaria World Bosses. According to the addon Rarity, all those mounts have a mind-boggling 1 in 2000 chance to drop.
If you multiply the respawn timer of 15 min by 2000 tries, a person would need to spend about 30.000 minutes or 500 hours of just waiting the bosses to spawn!
That is an absurd amount of required time, even if it doesn’t come close to X-45 Hearthbreaker (a 1 in 3333 chance).
Solar Spirehawk, for instance, is a world boss drop from Warlords of Draenor that has a much less disrespectable drop chance, of 1 in 500.
between fallen charger model and hopecrusher mount model, i think we can agree which one ‘looks’ more ‘prestigious’, then again its subjective which I can respect.
you are more likely as a dev to hit ‘fun’ boxes among more players if you offer various ways to obtain mounts, heck, some mounts are rare drops which can ALSO be bought for some anima and offerings.
I used to run many alts into old raids/dungeons/daily rares (8.3) and did not find it fun. However I can appreciate what blizz has done to improve that this expac and that is where I took issue with you original statement, I had fun obtaining mounts doing a lot of different things this expac.
Pretty lame of you to brush it off as ‘mansplaining’ (whatever that means in this context???) or to insist I don’t understand how ‘fun’ works.
I think right now our response when these ultra rare farmable mounts drop is not excitement over getting a rare cool mount but, rather, relief that we no longer need to do that content, and I just can’t believe that that is the response you’re seeking.
