Originally, I was actually thinking of the language barrier between English and the other languages like portuguese, spanish, Chinese. but another language barrier that exists in the game currently is between horde and alliance. if you’re in a group, it doesn’t really matter. but out in the real world, you basically cannot talk to the other faction, and even if you can, it’s very unlikely that you’re going to encounter someone that speaks the same language as you. we were stuck in Throne of Thunder the other day trying to get through the last half of the raid and it was virtually impossible because half the people there didn’t even speak english. I had someone whisper me an entire paragraph in Portuguese and there’s no way to copy that text and drag it to Google translator or anything.
how are we in the year 2024, halfway through the year in fact, and there’s no Translate application in a game that brings people together from different countries? I’m not talking about rocket science, I’m talking about a basic project that even a computer science student in their first year of college could complete using chat gpt.
it’s absurd to me that they group us with people from other countries who don’t even speak the same languages as we do, we can’t explain the fights to them because we have no idea what language they speak, so we instead have to wipe repeatedly and the content is unplayable. I’m looking at you dark animus right now in remix. half the people in The Raid did not even speak the same language as us so we had to disband. no matter how we explained it they just wouldn’t listen or wouldn’t understand us
So, the idea is to have a way to translate everything into each person’s language? If so, I agree.
For example, if someone speaks in English, it would be automatically translated to Brazilian Portuguese for me, and what I speak in Portuguese would be translated to English for you, right?
That would be fantastic.
What I’ve seen is that they wanted EVERYTHING to be translated only into English and nothing from English would be translated into other languages, which I am against.
It’s 2024, and I don’t think any game has this…so, if you created one that was easily incorporated into online games and patented it, you’d probably be rich. Get to work!
To be fair, Google translate is really, really bad for Spanish, specially if there are any misspelled words or gramatical errors.
More often than not you get a completely misleading translation.
Why should I have to work for free and develop a very elementary solution to their game? It’s their job to make the game more inclusive, not mine. I’m doing my part by raising the issue. You’re just being a troll and making it harder for others to fit in. Great work man
I’m obviously not talking about that. Go moan somewhere else, please. Not related to this topic at all.
There are plenty of addons in this game that are “free” that also require a monthly fee to unlock the full functionality of it. You’d be surprised how many people pay for them.
“Zygor” comes to mind. A speed-leveling addon for WoW.
I regularly have “Elixer of Tongues” up which allows me to understand what the opposite faction is saying, but an actual conversation requires both parties to be using it which is pretty rare. That said, it “can” be done.
I whole heartedly agree about the real world language barrier. I can’t think of a good reason, in this day and age, that they couldn’t do realtime translation. Zero reason this should still be a barrier to speaking to players of differing backgrounds.
20 years of destruction at the hands of the faction language barrier and somehow the game and community are still here? A miracle. Purely a miracle I say.
