The lack of a technology class in WoW is pretty glaring

So pretty much every applicable MMO has a tech-based class except for WoW, and it’s kind of weird because there’s a LOT of steampunk/sci fi elements in the game. There’s even technology-based races like Gnomes, Goblins, Draenei and Nightborne that use mechanical or magical technology. So where’s the technology class? I know there’s a tech-based profession, but there’s also a magic-based profession and multiple-magic based classes, so that’s not really an excuse either.

Just look at the list;

GW2: Engineer, FF14: Machinist and Sage, DFO: Entire Gunner advancement line, Lost Ark: Gunner, RO: Mechanic, etc.

And yeah, I know that not all MMOs have technology classes, but the ones that have a strong steampunk/sci fi sub-theme like WoW does always have at least one. WoW not having that feels like a hole in its class lineup.

Y’all asked for tinkerer and got diaper gnomes. Take the L and move on.

I think they had always just lumped mages and hunters into the tech class but I think a designated tech class is long overdue.

There’s a profession open to every class, instead.

Yeah, think about the class fantasy.,

Mage spends decades learning magic from the best masters on Azeroth becoming a hero of the people.

tech class dude buys a wrench from a random vendor in Org… becoming a hero of the people.

Tinker is a terrible idea.

Right…

After buying the wrench they instantly know how to build and maintain giant mech-suits.

Seems legit.

Tinker is objectively the worst idea that has ever come out of these forums.

Some ubbernerd said people were asking for Tinkerer class for over a decade.

:skull:

There have definitely been much, much worse ideas.

I would think someone with your post count would know that this statement is objectively incorrect.

Tinker isn’t my first pick but it’s an actual wc3 unit which is why people want it.

FYI, Blizzard was the one who came up with the idea.

lmao “glaring”

Other games have other classes, news at 11.

Like Tony Stark instantly knowing how to reverse engineer a missile into a suit of armor with an infinite power source while being stuck in a cave in Afghanistan with a car battery attached to his chest.

It’s part of the archetype.

This is what people tend to forget. And what happens to it when it becomes a class?

Of course, as it is, Engineering has become almost useless and forgotten over the years. Kind of like Inscription.

The class isn’t based on the profession, it’s based on the RTS hero unit. Also the RTS hero units are the basis for every class in WoW.

That’s not even getting into the point that we have multiple races who are tech based and have no class that matches their racial lore.

Tinkers are the most logical step for a new class in WoW. They are the only class that has no representation yet is a fundamental part of the lore of at least two races: Goblins and Gnomes.

Everything else at least has some representation. SOME. Necromancers could represent the idea of death themed undead summoning caster infinitely better than current death knights, but the rep is still somewhat there.

There is something admirable in all of Azeroths leaders that would make a player want to imitate them. Not perfectly, but it’s there.

You want to be like (classic) Thrall? Beseeching the elements and spirits for aid? You can be an orc shaman.

You want to be like Garrosh, Cairn, Muradin, Greymane, or Varian? Warriors are there for you.

You want to be like Anduin, Velen, Moria, or even something darker like Natalie Seline? Priests are there for you.

You want to be like Uther or Liadran? Paladins are there for you.

You want to be like Malfurion? Druids are there for you.

You want to be like Chen Stormstout? Monks are there for you.

Maybe you want to imitate the villainous leaders? You want to be like Gul’dan or Arthas? Warlocks and Death Knights are there for you.

You want to be like Sylvanas or Vol’jin? Hunters are there for both of them. Shamans and priest are there for Vol’jin. It’s not perfect, but multiple classes have been used to represent them at times.

But you, a loyal gnome or goblin? You want to imitate your leaders, Mekkatorque or Gazlowe? Nah you’re out of luck. No in-combat mechsuits. No excessive explosions of bombs and bullets. No cool in-class gadgets. No Tinker backpacks. Nothing you can play can represent them well.

Tinkers work. They work really well, and a hell of lot better than bards, which have no important representation in lore anywhere.

PS: Obligatory necromancer request: You want to be like Kel’thuzad? You’re also out of luck.

The RTS unit makes turrets and bombs and buildings, iirc. No one is making turrets or buildings for a class. Engineering got bombs. As did Survival, I think.

The issue is that it’s split up everywhere and not cohesive. Meaning you take away those things to make it cohesive and we lose stuff again just to throw bombs n stuff at someone from one specific class?

Not keen on it.

True asking for Ranged SV back is worse

I can’t think of anything else though
