For me it’s just that they’re incredibly boring.
I like Bastion but the Kyrians are kinda bland and too paladin-y
I don’t like how you get sent there involuntarily and they mind wipe you for your trouble. I find the whole place authoritarian and creepy.
I am enjoying them. I went Night Fae on my NE rogue but I am all on board with Kyrian with my DH. Not sure what I will do with my DK and Mage alts yet but they are a couple weeks down the road anyways.
I like it… it’s purdy. Also, the excessive blue in Ardenweald… is not good for my eyes (or anyone else’s really).

Well, I mean the only difference between a cult and religion, is the object of a cults worship is a living person. In a relgion, that person or deity is deceased, or supernatural in some way.
Nobody trusts Blue Angels without haloes.
Idk man I like their lore. You really want to spend eternity thinking about your dead mom? Nah thatd mess with my head id rather say my goodbyes to my memories and move onto something new.
They are trapped between life and death. Under normal circumstances they would have likely ended up in the Shadowlands, they do have Vrykul ancestors after all.
The Drust evolved well past the Vrykul however and have circumvented death entirely, but in that process also life.
Thros, the realm which the drust exist could be a number of things. It may be a realm inside the shadowlands or adjacent to it. Which will explain their ease of invasion when Ardenweald waned. Maybe it is a separate realm of death created through drust soul magic. The answer should come with this expansion.
What is confirmed is that the drust invaded Ardenweald to use its reincarnation powers since the greater majority of the drust are stuck being neither really dead or alive. Ardenweald is their golden ticket back to Azeorth/life.
Edit: For additional context, they invaded Azeorth during BFA with the help of humans following their orders and wielding their magic. This invasion was easily capable of succeeding had even a handful of full drust managed to cross the plane. Thankfully the true drust never got a foothold and were stopped. In Ardenweald instead of facing their human followers and echos, we are facing the full force of what the drust can do. So it is likely they are nowhere near being finished this expansion. Blizzard seems to be building them for purpose, hopefully anyway lol.
You don’t forget who you were in Buddhism. It’s probably what the lore is going for, but it doesn’t really match their execution.
I think Kyrian would have been my favorite covenant if they looked less goofy. Like, I’m here to save reality from an overwhelmingly powerful threat, not watch the blue man group.
They’ve been given a sacred duty to ferry souls and as a result have to let go of their past prejudices and attachments. Which seems fair enough. Sure, it’s easy enough to send people you have never or will never know to the afterlife. But would it be as easy if it were your family or friends who you had to take? Or people from a country that yours was at war with, or the thousand other things that could sway your ability to do the duty you had been given.
Hmmm
Do you understand what it means to extinguish the flame?
When my wife is mad at me, she sure extinguishes the flame real fast, am I right? haha
I admit, I was happy to go Kyrian - Bastion was far and away my favorite zone and their covenant hall is just a joy to return to. So bright, uplifting and legitimately beautiful.
Never really thought that would be almost as good for me as the solid abilities… but 2020 is a strange year.
As someone whose mother died when he was young, yes.
Understanding loss and the short time we have to be alive is important to develop empathy. I can say confidently that having lost people has made me a better person.
Isn’t that what Kyrians are supposed to be all about? Their whole concept makes no sense. None.
I don’t enjoy Kyrians or Bastion leveling because the Kyrians come off as overly emotional and sensitive.
I don’t see anything wrong with the requirements of becoming a Kyrian, personally. Once they give up their memories, all their bias completely vanish. They become the ultimate jury and fulfill the role of ferrying souls perfectly.
And then the Fire Nation attacked and systems that worked flawless since the dawn of creation broke down and suddenly they need their memories to do their jobs because Uther, Edgelord Incarnate. Good grief.
Someone else made the point that the Kyrian are the “angels” that rez us in the open world when we die. What if that human Kyrian decided to not rez an orc?
I think Blizz in-game explanation of the world has fallen short lately since they just have people write novels for them.
Cannonicaly, we don’t really die, and resurrection is extremely rare. So, that wouldn’t really happen.
I think Bastion has a fascinating premise, it had people debating 100x over any talk of the other zones. I think it’s great because of that reason alone.
Plus the color palette of the zone is unique compared to the rest which felt very ‘I’ve been here before’.
/2 cents
Oh, I think Bastion looks amazing, and the concept behind it is cool. I’m just saying, their philosophy is completely idiotic and sounds like a dimwit writer came up with it in 5 seconds without actually putting any thought (or at least research) to it.
