The Kyrians seem to be the most disliked covenant

the kyrians are a bunch of karens

Personally I hate necrolords. The entire zone is gross and depressing and the abilities are both unimpactful and frustrating to use.

ahh yea i dont know too much about the drust though

Yet a major world religion does have a counterpart in the Kyrian doctrine: Buddhism. Attachments = Unhappiness/No Satisfactoriness.

Kyrian appears to have a “Western” appearance (heaven) with Buddhist undertones. Even though most Buddhist sects would say there is no permanent soul (that would be much against the Dharma/Teaching).

I agree with an above person’s post, it rubs most “Western” people wrong because it works to a collective goal for harmony and not an individual goal. When most “Western” cultures stress value to individuality over the collective. (America is showing this when you contrast it with Japan/Korea with handling COVID19 for example and to showcase why I say most “Western” cultures; see New Zealand)

(I put “Western” in quotes because it’s unfair to use the east/west dichotomy due to the breath of cultures being associated and isn’t accurate academically)

Everyone keeps referring to it as a cult, but does it really sound any different than the military or joining any religion (not just Scientology). There’s a reason Christianity refers to its priests as shepherds and its followers as a flock.

I haven’t read through all the comments, but I can’t be the only person that sees Kyrian as WoW’s version of angels, which serve God without question (or become fallen). That would also make Kyrian Servants like cherubs.

what they described is literally a part of bastion’s plot. trying playing the zone before you comment.

Its not , vocal minority does not count .

All of the shadowlands realms sound like hell to be fair…

The Maw is eternal fear and torment
Revendreth is eternal torture
Bastion forces you to forget who you were
In Ardenweald you are either trapped in your own memories until you are reborn, or your trapped in the body of a woodland creature and slowly draining away everything that is you until your just gone…
And Maldraxxus… “welcome to your afterlife, now go fight to the death… don’t worry we’ll put your afterlife corpse to use… you’re soul will be destroyed, but we’ll make use of you”

I cant play the faction I want since people dont like them and im a weak person.

Yet your post and last paragraph speaks to that you do value your own Self (identity) over the collective.

That is his point.

I have grown up in two different cultures where those values are flipped.

“Who wouldn’t fear the loss of self?” = Many Buddhist adherents, monks/nuns, laymen and followers.

“I think anyone who doesn’t either does not care for themselves much or hasn’t thought it through.” When the I is you, then it is neither, both, and nothing. What do you have to think less? When your imply thinking of others in as regard to I (self), as lesser?

“As I asked someone else, would you undergo a lobotomy if I said that it was for the greater good?” Maybe, if given the evidence.

The problem is with the assumption the Kyrian do force them to forget “themselves” when they ask souls who arrive to walk the path at their own pace (saying it could eons, which goes against this whole “no free will” argument), let go of memories that (in their world manifest as real) haunt them and not all memories, and serve for the Purpose (great good).

They are misusing the term Cult anyway.

The Kyrian do not worship or give to One person or “thing” really (now the first group we meet in Oribos*sp?)

Christianity and Islam are modern thriving large cults by the definition. Most who use the term cults do want to defame and it now carries the baggage of being “off”, “wierd”, “wrong”, “brain washing” and “small” rather than what it really means. Which is utter reverence for a personality or person.

They allow their members to do as they will and only ask them to come to their trials in their own time.

Freedom of speech protects you from the government. Most democratic countries in the world give the same allowance. It’s not unique, especially when you consider our whole country was founded on ancient Greek and Roman principles.

I thought all they did was in the name of the Arbiter.

was a good reason for it though.

In order to not judge the souls they carry, they need to have no possible attachments or prejudices.

Kyrians are about structure. It’s not a bad thing, but their strict code is not for everyone.

I ,however, wouldn’t want to die and then have to continue remembering my past in the afterlife. It makes moving on difficult.

Nope they do it for the Purpose (what the Kyrians have been tasked to do). I haven’t finished the playthrough of all of SL but it’s been cryptic what is the Purpose and who even the first ones are.

The first group do, they do it for the Arbiter. THAT is cultish by definition.

I got the impression the souls picked their animal forms. Seeing as how there were quite a few humanoid spirits around, and the animals themselves said they chose what fitted them best.

doesn’t change what is happening to them though… them choosing their animal form is like a prisoner being given a choice of color for their jumpsuit, or paint for their shackles.

Ardenweald is arguably the least hellish of the Shadowlands… but it’s still a hell when you actually pay attention to what is happening there. Those who are “sleeping” and awaiting rebirth are blissfully unaware that their entire existance can be snuffed out on a whim by any number of denezins of Ardenweald. While those who are living out their afterlife in Ardenwealed itself are quite litteraly draining their very existance into the wildseeds. If you pay close attention, the cognative abilities of the spirits slowly diminish as they give more anima. The humanoid spirits (not counting the Night Elves) are the remnants of those who have given all the anima they can give, they are barely even there and just drifting about waiting for someone else to give to them so they can go on existing, or drain what little they have left and end their existance.

Well… they kinda deserve it.

In terms of psychology, that doesn’t actually make any sense. Selflessness is a TAUGHT behavior. You can’t be selfless if you forget who you are or you forget the reasons you developed your entire moral code.

It’s also extremely hard to be empathetic if you don’t know or remember what it’s like to have lived a certain struggle.

A brainless soldier is not altruistic, they are just a tool following orders under someone else’s moral code.

So, I’m not saying Felsworn are better, but the Kyrian are honestly stupid.

EDIT: to quote Illidan - “I am my scars.”
Illidan’s “sacrifice” made sense because of what he has suffered. If he suddenly forgot who he was, his sacrifice would mean nothing… it wouldn’t even be a true sacrifice. He probably wouldn’t even make the choice.

Well you’re right. That is the flaw of the Kyrians and fortunately the Archon realizes this after the death of Devos.

She tells you it may be time for Kyrians to reconsider how they handle ascension and memories. So there are signs of reforming the system without joining The Jailer like devos did.
