"While I personally have not had issues with my server, despite 20k+ queues, because I took time off for launch, this proposed solution of simply adding additional servers post launch (when many have spent 20+ hours on a character) fails to address the true issue. What is the real issue? Perhaps a personal example: I am able to immediately log in at launch and grind out 20 levels, my friend who does not have the flexibility I did at launch manages to get in several hours later, get a few levels and then must log. Day 2: friend meets a queue that likely will take longer than he has to play. Options: completely reroll, forcing me to waste 20+ hours, or hope that eventually “friend” will be able to play enough to progress. Server selection and character progress are true commitments in Classic.
Now extrapolate this on a guild/community size basis. It’s not a simple matter of one individual being able to have a better experience with queues. Classic is community driven. Communities want to stick together. Communities progress variably. Variable progression means vastly differing consequences of starting again on a newly opened realm. If you give a guild/community the option to transfer to a new low population server, it would likely happen, because the community would remain intact. Absent this, new realms are a hollow gesture."

Not mine but this post needs to be seen by more. This is the issue with opening new servers. At this point, new servers do NOTHING. Free transfers to new realms need to be opened.

their system of just opening new servers and expecting people will give up their friends/guild/whole days and night’s waiting/grinding to just repeat the process several times over because every realm gets mad queues, is just rubbish. they need to open transfers for free if they actually want people to go over without complaining, so communities don’t get fragmented and we haven’t wasted our time for nothing. We can’t get this back.

My only hope is something is done soon…
There is going to be massive amounts of people “behind”, unless you are in a race of some sort then it won’t be a big deal. I haven’t been able to get on yet either - if you work during the day you are pretty much out of luck as the que will be longer than you have to play.
If it takes a week to settle down then that is what it takes I guess. It will be worth it in the long run to be on a healthy populated server.

100% agree with the post! Totally need server transfers. Just open up a new server and make it transfer only to start.
Yea server transfers will actually get people off high pop servers
It’s comical that the solution to combat massive queue times was to have people roll on a “new” server. Every new server is experiencing unbelievably long queue times. How about we open up a SUFFICIENT amount of servers and allow for transfers.
I recognize you are facing a logistical issue but Blizzard is facing a much larger logistical issue right now which is the thing you’re describing happening on a scale of millions of accounts. Trust them to act and eventually server populations will stabilize. For now we’re forced to accept we don’t know if we’ll stay on the server we started on forever, maybe in a week it’ll make more sense for you to accept a free transfer with your friend or something. People just need to be patient with Blizzard, this is the same old game we all loved.

Finally, someone is thinking
This. I’ve switched servers three times now, each time to a lower and lower pop one. A few hours later they get full and have 3+ hour queues. Even the ones they just opened like an hour ago are already almost full. I’ve given up trying to play this week
A lot of guilds could have moved off the worse realms prior to launch and they did not. My guild did and we mostly don’t have an extremely long queue.

We need free server transfers of our choosing provided we don’t choose a higher pop server. We also need 5-10 new servers at a time instead of 1-2. The last thing we want is to re-roll/transfer to a new realm just to find out in a couple hours that the new server is now full because its the only option. My preference in the long run will be to play on a medium server for best balance with overcrowding/ghost town without looking at wait times. There will be no medium pop servers unless they start rolling the servers out in higher numbers. Plus the fact that if everyone on a full server who was contributing to the overpopulation moved to a lower pop it would fill up several servers because ALL the servers are full (speaking of PVP servers [15 full out of 18).
It is extremely help that Blizzard fixed the realm pop status so thanks for that!
