Anyone else find the whole situation ironic? Here we have the blood elven leadership, banishing a bunch of people who refused to heed its command to stop practicing a form of magic they fear is dangerous, who else did that? Oh yeah the night elves.
I mean if the blood elves can use it as justification for their thousand of years hatred again the night elves, then turn about should be fair play.
The last time their prince, Kael’Thas, played with Fel magic; he came close to destroying Quel’Thalas and condemning its people to fate far worse than death.
So in a way, their overreaction is; while perhaps not justifiable; understandable.
I do not think the Blood Elves are as liberal when it comes to magic as they were during early TBC expansion.
Given that Alleria’s mere prescence nearly caused the Sunwell to literally explode, you really can’t say that they didn’t have reason.
Also since Alleria did visit her country under false pretenses, her followers could also be seen as a subversive fifth column promoting Alliance interests. Lorthe’mar would have been a fool not to banish them, even if the Sunwell was not a factor.
Alleria had to literally be in front of the Sunwell to actually have an effect. I would posit any magical experiments are usually done a safe distance away from the Sunwell. Hell, if we are talking about potential dangers to the Sunwell a miscast spell could potentially cause its own form of havoc.
The void elves(or rather the blood elves who were studying the void) were banished long before Alleria came into the scene.
And yet they still have the gall to call out the night elves for banishing them. Their entire society was built on volatile magic(hence why the night elves even bothered to spy on them). The are still blood elves practicing Warlock magic, which in a way is just as dangerous, if not more so than void study.
Incidentally, the Night Elves also banished them following a near apocalyptic event, so in a way; the Blood Elves are not so different from their ancestors now as they banished the Void Elves.
But to be fair, Warcraft’s lore; just like our own history; is full of hypocrites, and I think the hypocrisy only adds to the Blood Elves.
And no one really knows what is the most dangerous. Fel is universe ending, but there has been speculations that the void is an even bigger threat; so perhaps it’s just as dangerous, or even moreso. Either way it’s playing with unknown magic of potentially multiverse-ending consequences.
As usual, ya’ll read the most surface-level things that fit into your point and ignore everything else.
There are plenty of Blood Elf shadow priests still running around uncensured. Umbric wasn’t banished for using “bad magic,” he was banished for openly seeking to emulate the man who betrayed Quel’Thalas.
This isn’t true. Umbric was banished prior to finding Dar’Khan’s research, due to Rommath demanding it as a result of the nature of Umbric’s research in to the void.
EDIT: It also bears mentioning that the specific research utilized was Dar’Khan’s apparent attempt (and failure) to breach a void-corrupted world in pursuit of an artifact. Umbric succeeded in this specific task. It has probably nothing to do with necromancy, save that Umbric was utilizing research into a void-related magical feat attempted by a necromancer in order preform the same void-related feat.
Don’t we only know of one Blood Elf using that as justification? And that was related to numerous personal losses related to said exile, not just being exiled.
But if some Void Elves have lost a lot of family members because of the exile, their hate is probably fair.
Rommath: “Stop that.”
Umbric: ”no”
Rommath: “stop that or you will be banished”
Umbric: ”no”
Rommath:”ok you’re banished”
Umbric:” THE BETRAYAL!”
Night Elves: “Stop that.”
Highborne: ”no”
Night Elves: “stop that or you will be banished”
Highborne: ”no”
Night Elves:”ok you’re banished”
Highborne:” THE BETRAYAL!”
Off topic sis. Besides, the highborne f***ed off to the other end of the world and left the Night Elves alone for thousands of years. The void elves jumped right in bed with the enemies of their people.
Like 10,000 years later and after a ton of fresh conflict between the 2? Not really the same as the void elves running to the Alliance like 15 minutes after getting banished.
