It is hilarious how a private server can do everything right yet blizzard can’t even fix the most basic sh*t on their OWN game. This quest is beyond bugged, and it needs to be addressed. Every person I have talked to said they have had issues with this quest, from his dad not showing up, to him dying to random mobs cause he doesn’t heal. What is the deal Blizzard? This is not how this quest is supposed to function.
Completed it last night and literally the only thing I did was take the disguise off before Tirion killed the Inquisitor.
Dunno. If you read wowhead though it’s always been a hit and miss quest, all the way back to actual vanilla.
To be fair, it was buggy through most of vanilla, as well. I don’t recall him being 12 feet tall, though.

Did the quest a few weeks ago no problems. I literally walked in with my disguise and kept it on the entire time, even when Tirion came. He dealt with the boss and adds no problem.

It would be helpful if the people that join these discussions stopped commenting just to say that the quest ‘worked for them.’ This does nothing for the conversation as it’s already a known bug. What people want to know is how this was fixed/dealt with by a GM if they met some kind of desirable resolution. This is not to be found in any threads.

Maybe you should post this in the bug fix forums?
We comment because obviously the quest is possible to complete and maybe we are/aren’t doing something that OP is/isn’t, so he can try again and possibly complete it.

Huh? Plenty of bugged quests on pservers. Moreso than Classic, IMO.
Anyway…i found this on Reddit for someone experiencing OPs exact issue and may help me and others:
me-“so what did you do? im getting the same bug”
him- “I abandoned the quest and restarted it at the escort part. Once I went all the way through it as a fresh quest it worked for me.”
Bugged for me. He died at the tower like hes supposed to and it insta failed. Second time i got killed by a mage half way though. Third time i got killed again at the tower and and luckily got credit or my monitor would be out of comission.

Or maybe actually help him instead of following him around in disguise when the quest itself TELLS YOU to remove the disguise at that point?
Sorry it failed because you wanted to breeze through it for a great quest reward without actually putting in any amount of effort.
Did it 3 times on 3 characters with 0 issues, because I actually fought, the way the quest was intended to go?
The only times it “bugs” out is if he dies because you didn’t help him before he reaches the tower, or if he dies at the tower, but you were standing too far away to trigger daddy Fordring showing up because you were too afraid to get your hands dirty.

No issues at all. The only thing I did is when I arrived to start the escort he wasn’t there… so I logged out and waited 5-10 mins before logging in to check so I didn’t waste my disguise.
Easy PZ.

While I did as you described, (and have always done), succeeding on the first try, I watched my roommate fail twice doing the exact same thing with Taelan dying at this point both times. I went up on my character and helped Taelan kill the mobs the third time and he was able to complete it.

Yeah he can die or he can wreck the elites pretty fast. There is some rng to it.

Just completed it after having it bug 2 times prior. I was experiencing the bug where there was only a grey question mark over the head of the turn-in NPC. I abandoned the “in dreams” quest as someone else had suggested, and it worked on the third try.
LMAO. Do you have any idea how many times In Dreams was broken on Lightshope? There was literally a point where it could only be done once a week and you had to wait for a server reboot for it to reset properly. Then there was a GM permanently assigned on Northdale for a couple weeks just to spawn the adds in properly because it was so bugged.
The last I checked it was still hit or miss on Northdale before the shutdown.
The quest has always been buggy, retail and private servers. It sucks but don’t think that private servers had it figured out. It took me almost three weeks to get an attempt in where it didn’t bug out on Northdale.
I agree that a lot of people have had issues with the quest. I myself got it on the second try, but the first failure was frustrating because of what looked like bugginess.
The script seems to be that after Taelen is killed, the bad guys attack the player character(s) and Tirion comes and saves the day. The way to complete this quest is not to let this happen, though. It seems if you get aggro of the elites, you’ll die and Tirion won’t show up. However, if you chill and stay out of range (I stood on the stump directly infront of the tower), Tirion shows up after a few seconds and everything is all gravy.
This all being said, maybe the fact that this quest is half-broken lends itself more to #NoChanges , lol.
