I just did the prepatch intro quests on a Horde character for the first time. Why on earth does the Reliquary chick yell about Khadgar being an invader who has to be arrested? And Ebonhorn, of all people, has to tell her he’s a friend? Makes no sense.
I doubt everyone in the Horde knows him.
If they don’t know him personally, they should have heard of him. The raven staff is kind of a giveaway. And she’s not just any rank-and-file Horde member—she’s a high-ranking member of the Reliquary.
Unless they are retconning all of WoD to be Alliance only, which I would not put it past them to do.
If he doesn’t know me and I don’t know him I better give him back the BBF ring he gave me then.
I think there’s less clearly spread information than we might think.
On the Alliance side, the dwarf didn’t know who Khadgar is either.
Safe to assume in a world without television, someone random jumping out a portal is just a random dude jumping out a portal.
The player has an insane amount of information that those living in it will never have.
Information in this world isn’t going to be super widespread and some information is going to be suppressed.
I’m honestly more curious about her extreme thirst.
That “handsome sorcerer” line is REALLY weird if she doesn’t know him.
I figure Naleidea and Toddy are meant to be relatable characters for newbies whose levelling progressions skipped straight over BC, WoD, and Legion all. Or maybe they just never met the guy face-to-face before now.
Yeah, I’m not bothered that some people won’t recognize Khadgar on sight as he suddenly appears from a portal.
But dang, dragonlady!! You want some of that Dadghar real bad I think. I know 20,000 years is a long time, but you need a little chill if you want to make something happen.
haha Horde characters complaining about invaders. That is hilarious.
It is probably a reference and joke to how Khadgar looks like a silver fox after he shaved off his beard.
Yes, yes, we know how ironic it is.
But be fair here. We have no experience with being the invaded! For the Alliance it’s like, “oh, someone unexpectedly showed up. Must be Tuesday. How many innocents did they slaughter before asking for our help?”
But for us it’s like, “woah, what the hecking heck?!? People can just… Show up like this?!? This doesn’t make any sense, I didn’t think people could just do that!! Maybe we should burn his loved ones in front of him, just in case.”
This is what bothers me the most about these sort of rando dialogues that have so little self-awareness.
Like… I totally get being mistrustful of the human you don’t know about but an invader? How many times did the Horde get invaded that this is their first response?
An intruder? ok sure… a spy? plausible reaction. But invader? Huhhhh???
He gets the exact same reaction Alliance side.
“We’re under attack!”
Edit: Oops. I didn’t mean to send this as a reply to you, Smallioz.
Given that players can pick and choose which expansion to level in, it’s entirely possible some players aren’t familiarized with Khadgar or may have forgotten him.
It makes sense on the Horde side for an NPC unfamiliar with Khadgar to be skeptical of a human mage suddenly appearing, but less so on the Alliance side.
That being said, I wouldn’t take a line that was obviously written to be humorous too seriously.
Naleidea Rivergleam says: A surprise attack! Guards! Arrest this handsome wizard!
Why would Toddy and Naleidea know what Khadgar looks like? It’s not like there are TVs for news channels to show these peoples’ faces to everyone.
For the ‘we’re under attack’ part of it, I think those comments might be because of the gout of fire (and arcane? though that might have been the portal border) that spews out of Khadgar’s portal before he closes it behind him. Which looked awesome, but I’m not sure why it was there.
