Only the exact 5 characters that were in group can ride inside. Anyway we can open it up to any characters on the 5 accounts that participated can ride inside at least?

I thought they did away with character-locked stuff a good few years ago… because it sucks.

The hivemind mount gets a +10% mount speed for every person on it, so I’m sure their thought initially was to limit its benefit to the teams that did the secret quest. Although, they quickly nerfed it in dungeons, so it doesn’t really matter now anyway.
So yeah, I don’t know why they don’t unlock it for everyone and make it a general multi-person mount

I would use this mount so much more if it wasn’t locked like that. I wanna get ALL the people in it and see how fast it actually goes.

yea this mount totally slipped my mind (no pun intended) and was playing around this evening on multiple accounts and tried to get my alt in with myself and didnt work and i realized. “oh, that dumb stipulation never got changed”. yea it is locked down to the exact 5 characters that did it together.
at this point and time it would be nice if they could unlock it for the 5 accounts that did it. or hell, even game wide for any and everyone to get into.

How long has this been around? I’ve never heard about it and I’ve been at this game since forever.

WoWhead says it was added in 8.1, which was released on December 11th, 2018…so almost 5 years.

as far as I know, there’s no way to “unlock” it, and the only people who can ride along are people who helped you with the quest. 3/4 of the other players I got the hivemind with all those years ago no longer play. 
edit: though I think you might be able to “redo” it with a new five people
