The "Heart" Bothers Me a Little

I don’t heart anything. I thumbs-up things.

I mean I rarely even mark anything up with that, but I definitely don’t heart anything.

I agree. It feels odd to me, and to get used to it, I’ll just have to downgrade the meaning of love in my mind. Sort of joking. Kinda.

Another thing that I don’t like are the social implications of is that you can now see who “hearted” your post. I preferred it when it was unknown. I would like to think that I take a post at face value when I read it. To enhance that, I deliberately avoid reading/seeing who posted the post, so I don’t carry any preconceived notions to the table.

But now, I know “x” liked what I said, so when I next read something from “x”, will I “heart” it on it’s own merits, or will I be biased and more likely to “heart” back as a social convention? Muddies the waters, but I suppose only really for posts that are on the fence, opposed to a post you are directly opposed to.

Nothing make or break, just very interesting to me because of the social interaction implications.

Yea I was actually thinking that, had we had the heart button at the beginning, it would be normal, but I still think that the button would be used at a minimum 10-20% less frequently, depending on the topic at hand.

For example: It may be around 10% less for things like the number of “thumbs up” instances received on the threads that didn’t like the removal of flight (back when that was in consideration), but around 20% less on everything of mild importance to people.

I do like the nod idea.

Also, I notice that the * characters around a word now italicizes the words. That also bothers me because italics has a different meaning than using the asterisk around a word. I see that it is becoming more standard, but all that means is that I now have to stop having the asterisks mean what I want them to mean.

Quite the opposite for me. I’ve found myself using it more now that it’s a heart.

Have some love.

I suppose it makes it more in line with how you favorite stuff with hearts on Twitter but yeah the thumbs up would have been a nicer option imo.

Same here… except I just got the notice that Im almost out of hearts.

:two_hearts: Just for you

You’re gonna take these hearts, sir :heart::heart::hearts:

At least when we disagree with something we can :-1: or :broken_heart:

I’m curious how you run out of hearts…I wasn’t aware that Discourse (what this forum is built on) had any limit to the number of posts you could like.

Do I :+1: something I agree with/enjoy? Sure.
Do I  it? Probably not. Rarely.

:+1: means i like it/agree with it
 means i love it or it has deeply spoken to me.

i like the thumbs up too, simply for the idea of what it means

I believe they added a daily limitation to prevent alt accounts to upvote the main account kind of thing (I could be stretching here). Thankfully its just a daily limitation that we know of for now.

Im just used to handing out thumbs up like I would candy to kids on Halloween. :candy:

Oh wow. They removed downvotes to limit toxicity, but added a handy :fu: emoji. That won’t get abused at any point. I’m positive.
