The hate towards preservation evoker

I’ve gotten a bit of hate and push back against my pres evoker alt, and while I understand its FAR from being able to clean up mistakes that meta healers, or for that matter pretty much all other healers can wipe away. It’s still a perfectly viable option to play and keys, and can easily mirror, if not straight up beat out the burst healers can do.

Yet I have run into three people so far that have been vocal about their dislike for the spec, and all three literally ate stupid like it was candy in a parade. In which preservation struggles to handle sudden hits from standing in a swirly or what have you given you have to setup a lot of your healing.

I’ve grown to really like preservation currently, and while blizzard has dealt it a very bad hand this season to be sure, its still a lot of fun to play when you sit down and learn how it works.

Blizzard very clearly wants people to play Aug. Switch to aug or reroll disc priest and be HAPPY with it.

NO you can’e make me play aug, it is a very boring spec to play!

You really think so? It’s actually not as bad as I remember it being in DF. Although I didn’t really give it a fair shake back then.

I don’t really care for the scalecommander gameplay though. Like constantly using deep breath.

Yeah I just find it to be very monotonous, and this can be true of any spec, but with aug its just keep might on CD, and then spam eruption until your next might cast.

Fair. As for pres, I still have never tried it. Looks pretty complicated ngl. S2 looks no better tuning wise afaik.

It’s MW, Disc, or gg I guess.

Pres is very complicated, its a blend between disc and MW in that you have ramp rotations, but you also don’t have emergency heal buttons such as flash heal, or LoH, or healing surge. Instead you have EXTREMELY high burst through using echo and stasis, both of which take pre planning and setup to use. Along with chronoflame free cast procs that can be used in a pinch as well. Pretty much any healing you do has to have like 2-3 GCD’s worth of setup. With the latter being spending several seconds charging up your breath abilities. Compared to just press button and get heal out immediately.

It’s definitely fun once you get it, but it definitely takes a lot of trial and error to get down.

Prevoker is fun and I only play Dev and Prev. Never had any issues last expansion healing keys. Don’t run keys this expansion, so I’ve only healed tier 11 Delves with it. It’s great for my purposes.

In the venerable words of the wowhead commenters whenever news of aug comes up: Delete aug.

I’m going to assume these bad experiences were while applying for keys?

And I’ll offer the same answer I give everyone complaining about keys, the M+ community is by far the most toxic section of the community. They gatekeep with the best of them and if you want to play a spec you enjoy without being denied for key after key then join a guild that has key pushers and play with them.

M+ers live and die by the Meta laid out by the pros. Take the two competitions this season. MDI had some pretty good spec spread, there were a couple tanks being played and two healers for specific dungeons. But day one of TGP Grand Finals (and both American weekends) have been exclusive comps, one tank one heal one Aug one Sham and a varying 3rd DPS depending on the dungeon but it’s always the same third for the same dungeon. Early in a season might see some leeway, but once we are into pushing the limit of keys then suddenly only the specs pros play are drafted for pugs.

We’ll see if things change in S2, but I still had fun and got my S1 main to 628 without investing heavy time in M+ so you could probably completely ignore that content if you don’t find it fun and not feel a difference in S2

I don’t care about meta. The reason I stopped inviting pres evokers was because I always had a bad experience with them. The first few times I didn’t think much of it, but the last time invited one was the “you have 1 more chance” point of a relationship…and they let me down. I haven’t had this experience with any other healing spec.

At first I was like… people don’t like presvoker? I thought they were cool as hell… it’s just not meta lol woops.

it’s not that it ‘‘isn’t meta’’ it just sucks compared to literally every other healing specs lol plain & simple

There is?

I thought Aug was the redheaded stepchild of the 3 lol.

At least the pvp folks absolutely hate aug and for good reason. Spec held hostage s2 of DF and created such sn awful experience.

Delete aug is like the one thing everyone can agree with there

What? Pres is great in keys. People always say it’s complicated but i can’t relate because i clicked with it right away.

Only thing it really lacks is a strong single target option that isn’t on a cooldown. Can’t really triage.

Also it’s missing range. Which becomes more of an issue as time goes by. I refuse to heal ara kara because the last boss is absurdly difficult to heal when nearly everyone is out of range in a different corner of the room.

I mean like I said before the biggest issue is you don’t have any sort of emergency heal, or triage ability without having to do some setup to bring someone up from like 10% to 60+% before the next big hit. In terms of output their perfectly fine, but your group needs to mostly know what their doing, in terms of playing around a pres evoker, ranged love to play a mile away from you. Followed by executing mechanics mostly correctly which PuG’s tend to struggle with, and is why they tend to favor other healers given they can hold your hand a lot better through content.

Nah this was mid run, I remember a ret in one run goading about how “right” they were that preservation sucked and was a bad healer. When the truth was the tank was still a bit green, and the ret themselves was CONSTANTLY eating stupid and turned it into a self fulfilling prophecy. Followed by were taking the game way too seriously for their own skill level, so it was more of a case of someone’s ego was bigger than their actual skills could handle.

Preservation Evoker is probably the best Healer in the game…if everyone just stays stacked.

In pugs playing Pres Evoker feels like herding cats.

Especially if you have ranged.

Yup, sometimes I even have to hunt down ranged just so I can echo them to ensure that my heal cast hits them.

^This, 100%.

All melee groups or groups with ranged that stay close are absolutely a dream. Pre evoker is one of my favorite healers. Priest will always be my main since I started with it but man, pres evoker is a blast.

I always save rewind, that time squishy thing with either spirit bloom or breath, or emerald communion for emergency healing. So many combos, so many choices- just have to remember them all in the moment of crisis.
