The hate of the 8.3 story is unjustified (for the most part)

the main complaint i hear about 8.3’s story is that we were able to defeat nzoth in one patch, but my question is what old god havent we been able to defeat in one patch? Cthun was beaten in one patch and yog only took a raid to kill. From my point of view yog was the one to get the short end of the stick since he was killed in one raid and the raid itself was mostly titan themed and not old god themed.

i dont remember anything else from the story so feel free to remind me of anything that was actually bad.

Just for the record. At first release CThun was un-killable. They nerfed him to make it so he could finally be killed (i.e patched). Haha

But dude people complain about and hate everything thing on these forums.

I think for many, it’s a matter of How we beat him. Via an Azerite Kamehaha wave.

Beating him makes sense. While he was fully unleashed, N’zoth had been stated to be the weakest OG which necessitated his mind shenanigans.

Also his death was a straight shot-for-shot copy of Sauron’s death from the Return of the King.

yeah, i get that the way we did it was dumb and i agree with people who say that.

what i meant is that killing him somewhat quickly isnt anything different from what happened in past expansions with old gods.

I think that was more of a numbers issue than anything else. whether it was supposed to represent an old gods true power is unknown. If i remember correctly there were a couple really annoying overtuned bosses in that raid.

yeah, many people think that nzoth was supposed to be some big threat we had never seen before just because of how mysterious he was until recently, but in reality he should have been the easiest old god to beat (as long as you could resist his psychic stuff) since the lore states that hes basically the runt of the old gods. The two big ones that could have been real threats compared to everything else we have faced in wow would be yog and y’shaarj since they were the most powerful.

Should the Black Empire have been an expansion? most likely. This was not the case and while YOU may have thought it was short, the whole underlying story was that N’zoth has been at this culmination of problems expansions ago.

So 8.3 is really the final chapter of a long story told through expansions. He more or less had half of BfA.

He resides in the dagger that was empty when wrathion attacked.

He’s not dead.

Maybe a little part of him does, but if all of him was in the dagger there would have been nothing else left to fight after Wrathion stuck him.

still more than the other old gods then.

tbh i think we are going to get something like a black empire expansion when we go off and fight the void lords. they probably didnt want us having 3 void expansions (cata, what would have happened with black empire, and void lords) so they just skipped the old gods stuff and are going to use the rest of the void stuff when we meet the void lords.

I’m pretty sure that part was a coincidence to be honest.

Yeah I think it’s wishful thinking by people who want there to be more to the story.

8.3 story is so bad that I rather read fan fiction from tumblr. Legit 8.3 story so bad.

You’d think an old gold that is known to be smart would have had a better plan. Instead N’zoth broke out of jail and insta died. Blizzard should of held off on N’zoth after 8.2.

That’s not how this particular Old God was built up to be.

N’Zoth was the weakest of the four, but he made up for that in his ability to manipulate people directly. He’s the Old God of Patience, moving pieces on the board ever so slowly so that his motives are accomplished without lifting a finger.

There’s nothing in 8.3 that reflects this. We didn’t even get to see a Black Empire, just some invasions in the most boring places on Azeroth.

To be fair I liked most of 8.3 content. But I came in this patch knowing corruptions would be totally broken and a clown fiesta. So I had fun with them.

The raid for me was the underwhelming part. Nzoth fight is one of the worse end boss fight as far as fun is intended, the last minute of the fight is okay, anything before that is redundant.

And the cinematic was kinda bad, maybe with some music or better dialogues it would be better. But it wasn’t a crescendo. Blizzard actually should learn a bit from FF14 for that.

Even DBZ would do the N’Zoth story justice. It would last longer. Think about that long and hard.

Compare the N’Zoth ending to the Hades ending.

Or hell, since it’s the same voice actor - compare the N’Zoth ending to the Valkorion ending from SWTOR.

C’thun and Yogg-Saron were both still chained up. N’Zoth is a fully unleashed Old God and should have represented a massively larger threat.

THIS! I would not be surprised if repeated the same thing the last prisoner of the knife did. After all, both are very devious.

I don’t like beating him with a stupid necklace I despise so much.
