The term RPG can be used fairly loosely, but if you had to pin point 1 (or atleast a top 3) greatest RPGs of all time, based of your own list of criteria, what would it (they) be?
I know some of you are just “WoW players” but if I had to go out on a limb I’d say the vast majority love RPGs.
Personally, in terms of story, graphics, world and gameplay I’ve got to give the greatest RPG of all time title to:
The Witcher III
Brilliant world, characters and story, also the graphics for its age are still great. I especially enjoyed the blood and wine DLC. The only thing that causes it to not have an even further lead over # 2 in the list is, I’m not really a fan of the whole nudity in the game, seems unnecessary tbh.
In 2nd place, I’d have to give that to:
Kingdom come deliverance.
It has a level of realism and allows a very open ended way of approaching quests a lot of games can’t match. I feel it’s more of a medieval simulator than anything. I do wish it had much much harsher survival elements though.
3rd place for my greatest RPGs of all time goes to:
Red Dead Redemption 2
Initially I wasn’t much of a fan of the western setting, but it’s a charming game, great story telling, amazing world and characters. the RPG elements are slightly lacking, but it’s a solid in its spot in the top 3.
Honourable mentions to:
Elder scrolls Morrowind, it hasn’t aged well but it was 10/10 in its day.
Oblivion/Skyrim get a mention, but they feel too streamlined, too generic for me to consider them ones of the best of all time.
Fallout NV, and to a lesser extent but still worth of a mention Fallout 4
