The greatest RPG ever made?

The term RPG can be used fairly loosely, but if you had to pin point 1 (or atleast a top 3) greatest RPGs of all time, based of your own list of criteria, what would it (they) be?

I know some of you are just “WoW players” but if I had to go out on a limb I’d say the vast majority love RPGs.

Personally, in terms of story, graphics, world and gameplay I’ve got to give the greatest RPG of all time title to:

The Witcher III

Brilliant world, characters and story, also the graphics for its age are still great. I especially enjoyed the blood and wine DLC. The only thing that causes it to not have an even further lead over # 2 in the list is, I’m not really a fan of the whole nudity in the game, seems unnecessary tbh.

In 2nd place, I’d have to give that to:

Kingdom come deliverance.

It has a level of realism and allows a very open ended way of approaching quests a lot of games can’t match. I feel it’s more of a medieval simulator than anything. I do wish it had much much harsher survival elements though.

3rd place for my greatest RPGs of all time goes to:

Red Dead Redemption 2

Initially I wasn’t much of a fan of the western setting, but it’s a charming game, great story telling, amazing world and characters. the RPG elements are slightly lacking, but it’s a solid in its spot in the top 3.

Honourable mentions to:

Elder scrolls Morrowind, it hasn’t aged well but it was 10/10 in its day.

Oblivion/Skyrim get a mention, but they feel too streamlined, too generic for me to consider them ones of the best of all time.

Fallout NV, and to a lesser extent but still worth of a mention Fallout 4

A good RPG no doubt, one of the only turn based RPGs I don’t mind playing.

More of a Pokémon Silver kinda guy myself though

Red/blue/yellow were good, but Silver was on the game boy colour no?

That or pocket. Can’t remember if yellow came before or after silver/gold but I think yellow released on color.

Nothing has loitered rent-free in my brain and smitten me with the urge to play it again every year like the Mass Effect trilogy.

I don’t even know how many Sheperds I’ve loved being through the years.

Depending on what constitutes great, specifically if a large or even appreciable facet of the criteria is number of players in it engaged and the consistency of said engagement, and with very much leniency toward the lacking quality of the general content therein, I’d say life.

The clear answer is Dungeons & Dragons since it’s unlikely any other RPG’s would exist, without it.

Ya for sure. I got gold myself, on the gameboy colour.

My reply was merely just nostalgia and jokes.

I don’t play games really now-a-days but I think there are more immersive RPGS now. But I liked the older style simply for its nostalgia. I think something like elder scrolls would be neat or skyrim or some other titles I saw but hard to really say ‘‘greatest’’ ever.

I got a new PC finally so definitely wanna go back into gaming.

And I have a nintendo small edition thing they did for christmas years ago with some pre installed games that have some old rpgs. Fire emblem or whatever its called… I think … mario and other stuff.

Original KOTOR

I wanted to love Skyrim, a huge portion of my young years was spend infront of the OG Xbox playing Morrowind. Many many thousands of hours.

I’ve played Skyrim, I’ve done alot of the side content, I’ve done all of the DLCs

I just, idk, find It pretty stock standard.

It’s a polished RPG no doubt, but I don’t see the fandom tbqh :man_shrugging:t2:

I dont play for story. I play for customization. Mods make the good game a unique experience

All opinion are welcome here,

No matter how outrageously incorrect they may be!
