In honor of ELECTION NIGHT in America, lets have a vote: Feel free to add as much as you want, but START your post with your vote! Say the class you think is the best.
Who is the greatest healer in Classic WoW, all around? This includes PvE and PvP.
Priest - Utility for days. Mind control, mana burn, effecient healing, offensive and defensive dispels. Racial spells such as Hex of Weakness and Fear Ward.
Druid - Great in PvP, can heal multiple targets while moving. Can become tanky. Essentially immune to movement imparing effects and slows. In-combat quick casting Rez, combined with innervate and the best buffs in the game make Druid sought after in PvE.
Shaman - A terror in PvP. Earth-shock can troll enemy healers, while you effectively heal your own team. Purge has no downside in classic. Low mana cost, no cooldown, and there are no anti-purge spells like lifebloom to worry about. Tremor and grounding totem create a high skill ceiling healer. PvE, you bring very effecient multi-target healing, and the beloved mana-tide totem. Ankh (ressurect) allows you to recover raids, or continue the fight.
Paladin - Defensive dispel, great single target heals, the ability to bubble. Blessing of freedom. Hammer of Justice. Auras, blessings, and a ranged holy-damage execute.
Priest
I feel a little biased since it's the only healer I played in Vanilla, but I feel they were always the most wanted around in raids. They were just a solid choice all around and dat fort buff...
Honest question, was the spirit buff in vanilla or added in BC? I can't seem to remember. I know it was a talent and I remember taking it in BC for raiding purposes, just can't remember if it was a thing back in the ol' Vanilla days.

Priests are the best raid healers.
Paladins are the best single target healers.
Shamans and druids are somewhere between.

Shaman due to chain heal. A smart heal that is amazing for healing clumps of allies.
Considering both PvE and PvP, I'd say Paladin, It's fairly easy to get the most out of your tool kit and its an efficient and powerful one. Freedom is a game changer in PvP, Salvation in PvE.
Personally I prefer the playstyle and versatility of priest on ally side and shaman on horde, but pally power cannot be denied.

Utility for days???? Did you even vanilla?
If you want to talk raw healing power then priest is the answer. If you want to talk overall contribution to the group then you can make a reasonable case for any of the 4.
Yes. It originally was the 31pt discipline talent. It was dropped to 21pt during the priest class revamp.

Priests will always be my favorite healer.

Mind Control
Mana Burn
The best dispel in the game
Heal-over-times
Shields
Shadow Resistance
Fortitude
Spirit
Racial abilities like mortal strike, and fear ward
The Priest has the most utility of any class in the game, IMHO.
It's paladin for me. However, I plan to PvP mostly. I've been a h pally since tbc but really look forward to experiencing vanilla pallies. However i dont miss the 5 min buffs lol

Ahhh, right. Hence the birth of hybrid Holy/Spirit specs for raids. Thank you!

What?
Troll priests have a 20 percent heal reduction curse.
From memory Priests are the best, but Alliance were better at progress raiding because they also had Paladins who were the best single target or main tank healers and they have good buffs.
Shamans were a bit lack luster and druids weren't played that much compared to the other healers as their hots weren't very good until TBC when they got lifebloom.

Why didn't you just call it hex of weakness? I was scratching my head trying to imagine how priests had a warrior ability.

Priests and shammies are pretty neat but they don't hold a candle to pallies. Priests are susceptible to hunters dispelling their mana with stings and shamans have no peels for themselves, outside of outrageous damage.
Paladins are best PVE and PVP healers, it's not even fair. Here's why:
They're the best in PVE from their ability to never go oom. Spells cost no mana when they crit. Add enough crit/int to the mix and you can't go oom. They will snipe any and every single spot healing and make your druids cry.
Pallies are broken in pvp. Completely. They get HoJ, a stupid stun. They get the strongest dispel that removes 1 poison, 1 disease AND 1 magic effect. Other classes can only remove one of those with different spells. Pallies get all 3 on the same GCD. Pallies get freedom and put it on their warrior. You hear the screeches of the 5 UD mages in your WSG as they recoil in fear. Pallies with the spell pushback talent + devotion aura = immune to pushback. Pallies wear plate, have fun killing a healer that has as much effective hp as the warrior killing you. Speaking of killing, did I mention how pallies are unkillable? Between BoP, Lay on Hands and freaking bubble, have fun. Bubble has been voted the most bull!@#$ ability in PVP by horde players for 14 years in a row now. 12 seconds of immunity. Yup. TWELVE seconds of free casting.
Oh and did I mention how stupid strong their blessings are in PVE? That's just the icing on the cake.

Priest is the best b/c of power word: shield and psychic scream. Both of these are instant cast moves on a short cooldown. The shield and fear mechanics are very powerful at 60 b/c remember not everything was homogenized then, so the use of these mechanics were limited to a specific few classes. (priest / lock and warrior's with a long cd had fears, and only priests / mages brought dmg shields.)
Paladins can top the meters in Pve, and take a beating in PvP.

I don't know pvp/raiding in Vanilla. But Druid play is distinct from others with the rolling hots on multiple chars. I really like it for a change.
As for Shaman, how do they aoe heal in Vanilla? Do they have chain heal? Is it truly smart heal, where it jumps to lowest or just to nearest? I don't know how it was built in Vanilla.

Whoever has those sweet sweet bandages!
Definitely Paladin in my book.
