The Gold Cost of Legendaries Is Simply Ridiculous

Having just come back to the game for 9.2, the cost of these things is just crazy. Even the lower ranks can run 20-30K. With double legendaries and tier, you have to craft so many of them if you play multiple specs in both pvp and pve. Not to mention that you can’t STILL can’t change the stats on them?

How is this good design? These are basically talent points that we’re being charged for, ya? Is the intent here to just bankrupt the players?

We need to see some changes to make them cheaper and more flexible. Let us change the stats and reclaim the base item when we break them down.

Do something to make them better because I’m definitely not buying tokens to play around this kind of intentionally broken system.

Make them yourself it doesn’t take long at all

No need to buy tokens. It isn’t that hard to craft them if you put in the time. Legendary items aren’t supposed to be easily obtained. In fact I’d say they’re too easy to get now and they’re losing what once made them special.

Is that crafting nerf in yet? Otherwise yes it does take that long.

It’s economics. Players make and players set the price. Some people I know make their own with alts.

Good thing no legendaries next expansion

Isn’t it great to have professions meaningful again?

Legendaries are player set in their price.

If they’re expensive, it’s cause how much gold Blizzard has pumped into the expansion has massively driven inflation up.

But you can work around that, cause what that means is that EVERYTHING is expensive so basically every avenue of gold making is insanely profitable.

Are Legendaries even going for that much over cost anymore? Unless you’re on a dead server they should be just slightly above the value of what it takes to make them.
Those darn vendor shards and the raw mat values dictate the prices. Should have seen them when the patch dropped. People were having meltdowns about being “forced” to buy tokens to afford Legendary rank 7s.

odd how the gold from people selling the legendaries never reaches the economy.

That may well be, but you don’t need all of them right away. Have patience, save your pennies, and get each new one as you can afford them.

I’m actually hoping that Legendaries go back to only dropping from end Raid Bosses like in the past (Heck maybe Legendaries should only drop from Mythic Raid Bosses).

Legendaries shouldn’t be some easy freebie or gold cost crap.

I still remember how mind blowing it was to see someone with a Sulfuras or Thunderfury. The amount of combined effort required to make them really earned that orange text.

I actually like the wrath and Cata versions best. Long quest chains, requiring drops and farming from raids and for only a couple of classes. Then just rotate each expansion.

Even the ring and cloak from WoD and MoP being upgraded over the course of the expansion was better.

Depends on your server. On competitive pve and pvp servers 291s are never more than 30k

291 rings (probably the most popular slot this tier with tier slots making a return), are currently at 39k on Frostmourne.

To make a 291 ring, you need to craft a 235 ring + a vestige of the eternal.

There’s different mats to make one, but I’ll focus on the JC mats since we’re looking at a JC legendary.

The Vestige requires:

2x Essence of Rebirth (760g)
2x Essence of Torment (670g)
2x Essence of Servitude (180g)
2x Essence of Valor (76g)
2x Progenitor Essentia (6200g)

So the Vestige alone sets you back about 7.9k (and some change).

Now IIRC, you have to craft that legendary at rank 4 to upgrade it to 291 so that requires:

80x Shadowghast Ingots (3840g)
40x Essence of Rebirth (15200g)
40x Essence of Torment (13400g)
40x Orboreal Shards (4000g)

And you’re looking at 40.3k to craft a legendary from scratch.

So if you bought all the mats off the AH, you’d actually LOSE gold trying to craft one of these rings. The only real way to turn a profit on them is presumably to mash the ore yourself to get the Essences since that’s the big money sink.

So lets say you buy ore. You need 42x Essence of Rebirth AND Torment. The math works out to about “100 Elethium Ore = 7 Essences of Torment + Rebirth + other largely unprofitable crap”. So you’d need roughly about 600 ore per ring.

Which at 48g each, is 28.8k gold. Or about 1500g worth of savings, plus whatever gold you get from selling the gems you also got out of that ore.

Which gives you about ~100g of raw profit per ring craft, assuming you don’t get statistically unlucky on prospecting.

Oh, and this is crafting rank 4’s in a vacuum and ignoring the absolutely stupid “rank up” system that legendaries use where you craft legendaries that stand virtually zero real chance of being sold to unlock the ranks that actually sell.

It’s way under cost on my server. It takes about 50-75k to craft one on my server but are being sold for 20k. All the big guys are selling off their stock pretty much.

On Proudmoore most 291 legendaries are like in the 20k - 40k range; only the jewelcrafting ones are typically more expensive

They used to be 100k at one point so the price of around 20k is just fine imo.

I just started this toon a few days ago on Alliance-Illidan server. The intention was to get no outside help and go from zero to hero in keystones in a matter of a few weeks. I hit level 60 on the 2nd of May. It’s now the 4th of May. I have a 291 legendary, Unity (I guess this helps I did on main already), 2 pc tier, and a buncha 15 keys done. Gold is “easy” to get if you do the basic callings and dailies for a few days. You’ll get a lego base in no time. Farming lego mats is also easy since Torghast is faceroll… You’ll get there. It’s less expensive than Vanilla legendary mats.
