When the new raid is opened the azerite pieces dropped from M0 are going to be significantly better than Mythic Uldir azerite pieces. M0 will be dropping azerite gear with the 5th ring, while Uldir will only drop the same gear as before, and 370 azerite gear with 5 rings and good traits is a huge upgrade from 385 with 4 rings regardless of traits.
All the top guilds that are 8/8 Mythic, some of the hardest PvE content possible, will be swapping out their gear for M0 azerite pieces, content that anyone with a pulse can clear. People in Method are going to swap out pieces they got in Mythic G’huun last week for M0 Azerite pieces. It’s insane.
Gear progression is the worst it’s ever been in WoW. Never has gear become 100% obsolete this quickly. We’re not playing the game anymore, we’re playing the patch. Can’t wait for the bis 425 socket gear I get to be replaced by a common drop from a boar in 8.2.
This is mostly a symptom of Azerite gear being really poorly implemented. Hopefully Blizz’s purported big plans for overhauling the system in 8.2 pan out but that’s another “But just wait guys! They’ll fix it in a patch!” thing.
While I understand the complaints about Azerite gear… hasn’t gear become obsolete pretty much as soon as the next raid comes out? Since… forever?
I don’t know, it seems fine. You get higher ilvl gear from certain WQs and such if yours is at a certain level. Seems better than just random drops or hard-set gear rewards.
Like Rhielle says, gear progression has always been this way. You wear whatever you get and keep playing. It’s not obsolete if you’re wearing it.
Yes and no. Generally as new content came out, it would be an increase in value but not by undermining a previous raid through dungeons in the base expansion. I can see the positives and negatives of this system.
That’s because 380 ilvl gear (mythic Uldir level) won’t be “good” anymore. It’ll be the new low tier compared to the new mythic Dazar’alor gear, which is 415 ilvl. That’s the whole idea with a new tier.
Obsolete with the next raid tier. Yes. You can probably still clear m0s on a fresh 120. Will it be painful? Maybe, but its way more gear than you would get from H Uldir. Raid gear getting undermined by trivial content gear on the next patch is something that started in legion. WoD had Tanaan, but you went through 2 raids before a catch up system was implemented. This expansion the catch up system started WHILE THE TIER WAS CURRENT.
Im fine with catch ups as long as they are to CATCH UP and they are still downgrades. The nethershard/veiled gear in legion was generally worse than gear when they came out (nethershard gear being roughly normal NH iirc) and you didnt get your tier set bonus. Now, the emissary azerite gear or whatever is actually better than h uldir gear due to traits and such.
Do you spend 100k to buy flask and weeks trying to gear and push to clear the most difficult content in wow? well… rejoice! you did it! congrats! in a month everyone can do it too without spending anything! easy and fast! and all your effort worth nothing cause in a month nothing you got is valuable and everyone will have the same gear as you! yay!
No worries. See what happens is every new expansions/major content patch invalidates your current gear, forcing you into a reset of sorts and making your hard earned gear now trivial to obtain. It’s called a treadmill. Its been that way since vanilla in 2004.
That’s weird because I read up somewhere that for years and years in this game, you would need to run a path of dungeons and previous raids in order to prepare your character for a current raid. Gosh, you really should tell me more!
