Hello all and well met. I started a few weeks ago and Turned 80 a few days ago. The game in itself is really fun , IF you stop and smell the roses, so to speak. I’ve played healer in many MMOs, but as a group healer, i gotta so it may want me to quit all together. I even inform people that I’m a new player and a new healer. I’d say 1 in 10 players are cool with LFG etc- pugs people call them/us. Maybe i should just DPS and not worry. We’ll see.
My 1st toon is a cool gnome monk. I wanted to see some of the story as horde, so last night i made a forsaken warrior and started in their zone. Great story so far. I;m loving the Queen…lol.
Anyway - im gonna keep truckin and keep trying to heal. I love the feeling of keeping them partry alive…
Ohh healin in pvp sucked…then i got all my pvp gear…I was lucky…i turned 80 on a Monday, so i found the pvp quests etc. Then this week…now i have full green pvp gear and i dont melt and actually help people…LOL
Anyway see you out there!! Now , when i get a sad healin feeling, i’ll switch to warrior…lol Good luck all and TY
Word of advice is that both Tanks and DPS have incredible defensives in WoW so if you have people dying on you left, right and center its (probably) not your fault.
A lot of incoming damage is either completely preventable, or massively reducible, so you’ll run into issues where two similarly geared players will take massively disproportionate amounts of damage because one will use defensives and one will not.
Also if you get a Blood DK, their health bar isn’t the metric of whether they’re dying or not. Track their runic power. So long as they’ve got 40-50 Runic Power they’re (probably) not at risk of dying! Lots of healers panic because they get worried healing Blood DKs.
Yoo, welcome. Healing is sometimes a thankless job, but, if you decide to stick to it, you’ll literally never have to wait over two minutes for anything related to dungeons/raids/whatever, so it can be a pretty sweet deal. You’ll meet the occasional hater or two, but that’s a given to every other walk of life, lol. Just do your best, and the rest will straighten itself out.
Keep in mind you can have two specs so you can switch between healing and punching as you please.
Anyway, welcome to the game! If you’re going PvP keep in mind if you win, you get those boxes. You can exchange those medal things for crafted gear at the Crafting Order area. I think talking to one of the Peacekeepers in Dorn will point you there. You can craft better pieces (and a lot of other stuff) from there.
Don’t let people scape goat you too much. Like others have said, everyone has a ton of self sustain nowadays. In lower end content like heroics it’s very common for your tank to do more healing than the healer.
Also warrior is one of the most beginner friendly classes, so thats a good choice.
Welcome to the game and thanks for letting folks know what its like as a beginner with WOW.
With a game that is 20 years old, a lot of us forget
You are doing the communications right and I love healing too!
Your next step, might be to start looking for a guild. The right guild, think casual guild in your search, might help you get your healer in a better place to learn.
If you go the guild route, read what the guild posts for the advertisement and then chat with one of their officers to get a feel if the guild has the right vibe for you.
Best wishes to you!
WoW In A Nutshell: A Proposed Leveling Experience For New Players
Goal: Familiarize players with the story and with their class in a quick, fun, educational manner.
Structure:
Each segment of WoW In A Nutshell contains five scenarios (each with a companion selected from the lore of the expansion), capped off by a final boss fight with a group of AI-powered lead characters from the expansion.
Talents are explained at the start of the leveling process, and at the end of each scenario, players can choose their own talents or have their talents selected for them.
New abilities are highlighted, explained, and the key binding process is laid out tutorial-style.
No worrying about grinding mobs or purchasing gear – each scenario (plus end boss fight) rewards an appropriate amount of experience and gear, plus some gold and transmog.
By the end of each expansion, you automatically reach the target level.
Expansions:
1-10: Exile’s Reach
11-20: Artificial Vanilla Flavor
21-30: The Learning Crusade
31-40: Lich King Nostalgia Tour
41-45: Cataclysm Mini ™
46-50: Checklists of Pandaria
51-55: Legion Express: A Tale of Two Dans (Illidan, Gul’dan)
It jumps from trivial to way too stressful incredibly fast with the middle ground not being large enough IMO. At least that’s how I feel about it in PvP.
Haven’t really felt too stressed in PvP but I’m also not doing high rated stuff.
healing isn’t what i would recommend a new player to try but you do you. annnnnd mistweaver is definitely one of the most difficult so double GL to you friend-o (i love me some MW tho).
make a friend who tanks. it’ll make running instances a lot better.
Sorry it’s been a little rough, good on you for getting to 80 as healer, that’s the hardest route and as a new player props to you!
As you play with more people, ask tanks if you can add them to your friends list and you’ll have a better time of it, as you already know, random groups can be spicy, I’m glad you haven’t been kicked though.
There are cool guilds out there, maybe ask around for any looking for a healer.
If you have ANY questions please come back and ask.
