I tried getting my aging parents into WoW and i figured it would be easy since everyone always claims how casual it is now. Load up the game and theyre already overwhelmed in character creation. Asking 100 different questions that should have been answered within the character creation; but wasnt.
2 hours of googling later, we finally entered the starting zone. And that in itself opened a whole new can of worms. Its safe to say that WoW isnt casual friendly and could use a major overhaul because even the most casuals of casuals cant even play it. I dont think that wowhead should be the go-to website for answers. Everything should be answered in game, but it isnt.
Make WoW more casual friendly please thanks.

Wait, what?
Pick a class, pick a race, pick a “body type™”, and the game will even pick a name for you. Then click on the create button. Yea, there’s a zillion options – don’t use them, especially since they’re almost (almost) all changeable in the barber shop.
What pace of the starter zone did you find too fast? The people zipping around you? First few quests are again yellow mobs that don’t even aggro, and there’s no abilities, so there’s really not any real decisions to make.
Follow the axiom “press any lit up button”, and you will, in general, succeed – for a LONG time.
Worst case later on is aggroing extra mobs, or, worse, catching the eye of a patrol. That’s just “real life” and has to be figured out.
Outside of combat, which gets routine after your 1000th mob (i.e. Level 20), it’s as slow as you want to go, assuming you don’t jump into a dungeon. Then, well, then…God be with you. Good luck with that.
My “aging parents” who have had prior experience with videogames (not WoW, but other MMOs) were able to figure it out in a reasonable period of time. Some of my friends who I would consider young (20s) with a group mixed between no videogame experience/some videogame experience (in other genres) were unable to figure out WoW. I don’t think it’s an age thing. I think it’s an “understanding MMORPGs” thing.
Some people, regardless of their age, pick up on things faster. Prior exposure to similar content also helps. And regardless of age, some people will simply just be unable to grasp the needed concepts. It’s like how you can give someone all the resources they need to learn PvP, but that doesn’t mean they’ll ever be good at it.
Something tells me op isn’t coming from a winning gene pool.

Therein lies the issue. The most basic aspects of the game (such as character creation and leveling) are very easy for newcomers, but for people who are not used to videogame functionality that is commonly understood by gamers it is going to be an issue at first. Maybe they will learn, maybe they will not.
I would say you introduced them to a rough choice of genre for their first videogame. Start with a platformer or something. I don’t think WoW needs to simply their explanations more than they already are to accommodate that much of a niche group, as this can be remedied with proper buildup to understanding games as a whole.

As naive as I am , I am able to spot the negative troll threads now. Wow is going to end etc, I am not sure what the motivation is as we all play other games occasionally anyway, but I will ever so slightly agree with one point, the character creation screen is daunting, but that is probably due to the abundance of character choices and options nowadays. I wonder if some of the options can be slimmed down as you can change almost everything cosmetic in the barber shop after the fact? Just an observation, I am elderly and I navigate the creation screen fairly well as it is.
Since its a troll thread, really everything has to do with it.
