The game has to get harder

I’m going with none of the above. The game is fine as is, for those who want difficult content there are mythics and eventually the mage tower will be back.

Dude I was casual, I was a GM of a decent-size guild and I loved Wrath, but the subs plateaued and then went down after Wrath.
This is the difference between me and you though. I could appreciate the challenges of the game even if I couldn’t attain them. I respected those that committed themselves to being the best. even if I wasn’t one of them, but I always tried to be my best and see how far it could take me and my guild. I liked that there was greatness in the game, it gave the game an atmosphere no longer present.

WA is not just for raiding, so neither.

And it really doesn’t have to be with either extremes. I mean Classic shows that addons and toned down mechanics can co-exist.

Man, you’re missing out. It’s a UI editing dreamwhere you can make anything you want and your limit is your imagination. Like a better low Health alert for one. Without that, i can’t really tell i’m at 50% without looking at the bar without cluttering the screen much. Or a center dot on the screen, because it helps me to aim at stuff when needed.

Game stays the same and WA stays the same

Dear god please no. Make them spell effect animations if you must, but I hope they NEVER telegraph abilities with colored shapes on the ground. Those are so lazy, tasteless, and devoid of any character. They look like a game developer element than a natural part of the game world. Never do this. Ever.

there’s difficult content, you just don’t do any of it

Driving people away from the game is a bad business model.

If you want the game to be more challenging for you personally, then simply equip vendor trash as your gear.

OP strikes me as the sort who wants to tell others how to play.

Too many people think weak auras is nothing but a raid addon. You have no clue what it is capable of.

WAs are extremely out of control… they banned AVG in Icecrown and WAs are infinitely stronger than that…

Because before it actually used to be difficult. That’s not what this game is now.

WA is great no doubt. But Blizz now has to account for it when developing bosses, and as a result the game goes from “difficult” to “multi-taskulator 10.0” where an add-on is a requirement to place the most important task in your face the moment you need it.

Humans are very poor at multitasking. This is exacerbated by the fact that there are so many ground effects with very poor visuals that without WA splashing something in your face they becomes background noise to the human eye while your brain tries to discard everything unimportant on the screen in favor of what you think you need to look at.

It just isn’t feasible to expect people to be able to play perfect in that kind of environment, your brain literally isn’t wired to do that.

No they’ve already made it hard enough like some of these mechanics are absolutely annoying like DBM or BigWigs shouldn’t be a requirement to do endgame content which at this point it pretty much has.

Remove the stuns from Dungeons and raids.
Get the game easier. Leave WAs as they are. Just don’t touch them.
Make the game more accessible

So you DON’T have a reason other than your preferences. Noted.

I mean you only have to mouse over debuffs once. And that’s assuming you didn’t bother to learn the fight before attempting it. Listen I don’t need more difficulty, I’m too lazy to renown/quests/professions/gold farming so I’ll just stick to the content you can clear with no outside effort. Heroic raids and +15 keys. Besides I play other video games, can’t spend all my time here looking for a challenge.

The ground effects aren’t that bad, just turn on “essential only”. Your problem with ground effects is that you see all the player stuff. Most bosses only have two ground effects at the same time and they have distinct colors or shapes.

Awh, gotta love the “this game is so easy, they just need to remove addons that make their garbage UI functional at a high level to make this easy game actually hard again!” takes from people who’ve never actually cleared said “easy” content.

Yeah I agree generally it should get harder.

I feel like the raiding difficulties are appropriately tuned.

  • LFR is a breeze but this early on there are bound to be some wipes here and there.

  • Normal requires knowledge of the encounter on everyone’s part but isn’t hard per se. An appropriately challenging experience for a large group.

  • Heroic requires some skill, you can’t be bad, and also knowledge and coordination. It ramps up in difficulty for the later bosses and AOTC does feel like a satisfying achievement.

  • Mythic is hard. No other way to say it when it’s taking professional players so long to clear it, even with the nerfs. However, the earlier bosses usually aren’t as hard and an aotc player will likely have the skill to down the first couple.

Outside of raiding though, it should get harder, especially for outdoor content. Wow has always been mostly “go collect 12 items.” Believe it or not, that actually wasn’t boring back in the day when it was a challenging adventure to do so and you had to be careful not to aggro extra mobs, instead of aggroing as many as you can on purpose just to tag them.

Tone it down. There’s no need for everything to keep being hard. Part of the appeal of Classic was that things were relatively easy so you didn’t have to go into it treating it like a job or sport, it was literally a “night with friends”. You don’t have to go back to MC style of one mechanic (barely) in an encounter, but like the Cata/MoP/WoD style was fine.

They keep pushing stuff and making fights overly complicated and with more and more flashy effects, and it makes it really hard to actually pay attention to wtf is going on.

Imho, classic was both easier and harder in some respects. Raiding and endgame content was way easier, but leveling and outdoor content was harder—actually having to eat between pulls, have enough resources like ammo, carefully pulling only one or two mobs out of the way so you don’t aggro others, and paying attention to magic schools.

When I played tbc with this guy, first time playing classic since it was live, I came across a mob that was immune to fire damage I needed for a quest. As a fire mage, I had to come up with creative ways to down it. That was wild and would never happen these days.

So I feel like vanilla everything was just closer to the center of the curve. Nowadays the easy content is extremely easy and the hardest content is extremely hard.
