Not from my experience.
false. 3/4 of the playerbase doesnt even want leveling in the game, myself included. the leveling experience has absolutely nothing to do with anything social. the only way they work on actually improving social matters in the game is to reduce complexity of major endgame pillars like mythic+. raiding is already pretty simple, but they could definitely ease the burden on them by allowing flex group sizes on mythic difficulty, looking at how the vault works when you extend, and getting rid of the unique raid id system
It used to be.
No, they don’t.
I think, not sure but think, they want to promote social behavior. They will promote social behavior with a reward system and propaganda. They will punish antisocial behavior using what some would (and most certainly will) call draconian measures.
Players that exhibit antisocial behavior will simply vanish. They will be there; you just won’t be able to see them or interact with them as you would with other upstanding citizens like yourself. See that pile of rubbish in the alley? That’s one right there! Resting in his new housing. See that NPC offering a quest to ‘Donate gold for repairs’? That’s another! See that sign that reads ‘Will tank for group invite’? You found another one!
By accepting these quests, you are guiding these misanthropes back into polite society. DO YOUR PART!
that was 20 years ago. i hate to break it to you, but those people arent playing the game anymore, and if they are, they arent playing retail. people that have joined the game anytime from legion on, could absolutely care less about leveling for the most part.
gonna need to elaborate on this one
Um, what did I just read? Do you know what MMORPG stands for?
Here is Chat GPT explanation.
World of Warcraft (WoW) is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) released by Blizzard Entertainment in 2004. It’s set in the high-fantasy universe of Warcraft, where players create a character, explore vast open-world zones, complete quests, and engage in PvE (dungeons, raids) and PvP (battlegrounds, arenas, world PvP) content.
The game is known for its rich lore, iconic factions (Alliance vs. Horde), and a constantly evolving world through expansions. Over the years, WoW has shifted its focus from a slower, immersive leveling experience to a more endgame-driven structure, emphasizing Mythic+ dungeons, raids, and competitive PvP.
I’d love to see your sources on this. I’m being dead serious.
“Forced socialization” is not really social, and the ability to progress as a solo player is why WoW became the biggest MMO. Compared to the other available MMOs WoW gave the casual player somewhere to be, and every QoL improvement since then has just made the game better. Classic is right there for those that don’t like retail, there is no reason to revert things in retail back to a worse state. All I can say is that if Daddy Blizz implemented your suggestions I’d be playing FFXIV.
MMO means people play in the same game instance and have the ABILITY to interact. It doesn’t mean they HAVE to interact. And RPG has NEVER meant “Requires Playing in Groups”. Solo players aren’t asking for anything to be taken away from others, and nothing designed for solo players takes away anyones ability to play socially.
And when one of the single player games you mention offer the same amount of playtime, update schedule and support for the $0 WoW costs then maybe I’ll try it. Not holding my breath.
