Hey everyone.
So I’m just curious…does anyone know if there is a dev dedicated to the Pet Battling aspect of the game, similar to how there are devs who focus on classes, and other areas of design?
I ask because it’s been almost five years since we’ve gotten a new Pet Battle Dungeon, haven’t gotten anything close to the Celestial Tournament since MoP, WoW Remix offers us a grand total of two pets (and no way to obtain the annoying MoP pets) vs. mount collectors who get 30 new mounts and 11 hard to get ones, the PvP system needs an update…
I could go on, but it just seems like the Pet Battle system has been seriously lacking attention. I was so happy with the attention we were getting with the dungeons and it seems like they’ve just abandoned the concept which is sad because I’d love the chance to do Pet Battle Dungeons in BC-era, or WoTLK-era, or even do Pet Battle Raids. Like imagine being able to go through Molten Core and pet battle against Majordomo Executus, or go through Kara and battle various creations.
Idk, I love collecting and I love the community, but it just feels bad sometimes.

For a while it was Jeremy Feasel (muffinus on Twitter), but I think he’s since moved on/been promoted and has other dev responsibilities for WoW now.
I haven’t heard of any other Blizz dev picking up the torch and dedicating themselves to Pet Battles/battle pets, but if anyone discovers them I’d like to say hello on behalf on WarcraftPets lol

Late, but it’s super cool to get a response from one of my favorite members of the pet battling community!
On topic - ahh, I remember Muffinus. If he’s gone, I really do wish they’d put someone in his place. The pet community is huge. For some of us, Pet Collecting is our endgame. For me, I only seriously raided for the first 10~ years or so of my WoW life. I’ve mostly just focused on pet collecting for the last almost decade. I’d love more content for those of us who love the system.

As I understand it Jeremy is now in charge of all experimental projects. Like Plunderstorm and remix.

If this is true my dude really forgot where he came from and dropped the ball. Pet Collectors really should have gotten a vendor with hard to get MoP pets just like mount collectors did

Perhaps, but there are many other people involved in all of those decisions. And you never know what other gameplay systems may be in the future! Maybe they are holding the pets for a future mode that is more pet focused?
Adding my own grievance to the pile, there are pets that you guys have that I will never have access to. I’ve seen Molten Corgi on Xu-Fu. In fact, it’s used in 60 strategies on Xu-Fu, which makes a moderately useful pet. But because it was a premium for those who bought WoD early, it’s a pet I will never have.
I don’t mind missing out on a few pets. In fact, since 95% of the pets out there will never be used for anything, except leveling, I’m sure I will end up not collecting most pets anyway. But Molten Corgi is not a useless pet. He has an interesting moveset. He can heal, do forced swaps and leave himself untouchable for three rounds while still inflicting damage.
And since I’m new, I will never have the opportunity to collect one. There’s no quest, no merchant or vendor that will give me one.
As I said, I don’t mind missing out on most pets, since most of them are useless anyway. My collection has too many useless pets as is. I prefer to keep only the useful ones. Unfortunately, some pets are only useful in the sense that they give me access to another useful pet, like Mr. Bigglesworth. He’s a reward for completing one of Raiding With Leashes, most of which are useless pets.
I get what you’re saying.
I guess it isn’t helpful for me to say that I wouldn’t mind a way for people who have missed pets to get them?
Like I can count on one hand the amount of pets I’ve missed in the last 14 years. Seriously it’s only about five that I’ve missed either due to forgetfulness or taking a break from the game. And it eats at me lol, because I’m a perfectionist. But I’ve gotten hundreds that are limited time / haven’t been able to be gotten again. And I’d happily make those hundreds return / so others can get them so I can get the five I’m missing.

That’s very nice of you.
I would like to be able to get a Molten Corgi. On the other hand, I can sympathize with those who don’t want these pets reintroduced. Some people actually had to pay premium costs for the next expansion to get those pets. And while I’d love to get some of them, I don’t think it’s fair to those who paid for them.
Then again, why are there pets that are available only for real world cash, anyway? That seems wrong to me, because if these pets are useful, then it seems wrong that the only way to get them is to pay extra money.
I am the future of pet battling. I have redesigned almost all of the battle pets in the game and added countless more (I lost count lol), a feat only achieveable by adding countless new abilities and balance changes. I am confident to say, as long as Blizzard hires me, then pet battling will no longer be in such a depressing state. As one of the few players who still care about pet battling, I started the pet battle revolution about a year ago and my creative skills have only improved after trial and error. Hopefully I could inspire others to see the potential pet battling could have in my vision. Only time will tell.
Speaking of the future, will polished pet charms still be the currency for TWW?
Or should we spend whatever we have now before they turn to dust?
Yes.
At least, to be more specific,
- PPCs are still the currency on Beta, and buy the same things they do now
- Blizzard hasn’t indicated any change in currency for TWW
but ofc, stay tuned in case of any late-breaking changes.

It could show up in the Trading Post you never know …
If it did, I would certainly buy it. But I don’t feel that’s right. Others had to pay real world money to get that pet, and I would be getting it for free.
The best solution, one that seems fair to all, is to charge a real-world fee for all the pets that were offered as premiums. Say, the difference between buying an expansion and buying an expansion with a pet.
You could argue, of course, that those who bought the expansion with the pet had to do that several times over, each time a pet was offered. So, fair would be paying the difference between expansion and expansion with pet, several times over.
On the other hand, when you buy an expansion that includes a pet, you get other benefits besides that, such as beta access. That wouldn’t apply to the Warlords of Draenor Molten Corgi pet. Since the expansion has been out for years, the other premium benefits would be of no use to me.
So, I think a flat fee to cover all the premium pets would be fair.
Not the Corgi
Awarded for logging in to WoW during the tenth anniversary celebration event.
That makes it entirely appropriate for the Trading Post.
