A seemingly large portion of us want to see Classic Plus. Reading between the lines and primarily from the information shared at Blizzcon, SoD was intended to be the ‘discovering’ and community driven feedback drive for this (or for retail/potential wow 2.0) purposes. I think this point was intentionally left ambiguous due to war within saga and potential intertwining and return to the storytelling. My question is, if we get Classic Plus (vanilla + new content, new dungeons, new raids, new gear, non-seasonal, no flying mounts, no class changes) etc. which are mostly my personal wishlist and a lot of others…what does the community expect to happen to the era servers? A further fragmented player base as we’ve witnessed with SoD has been detrimental to the era player base, notwithstanding that era is still far from dead. But I personally feel if we do get classic plus, we need to fall forward and embrace it, which could due to technical/financial reasons mean Era cannot continue. Of course perhaps there is a way to keep a vanilla server going for people wanting to play the original game, but classic plus feels to me like it should be as vanilla expansion….thoughts?
The fact of the matter is that Era has been here since classic tbc because people have shouted for a vanilla server since tbc originally launched back in 2006. Even if the majority of people want classic+, that doesn’t mean that that will be something that gets delivered in a way that resonates with the community and lasts. Era is a tried and true version of the game. To get rid of Era is to get rid of a sure thing that blizzard has to fall back on whenever things are in lulls, like right before P4 of SOD when Era started blowing up again. Era is a place that is “evergreen” that you never have to worry about being too late for, and you never have to worry about an inevitable patch that ruins the game. That is something valuable. To those of us that actually play Era, it is a place that we know wont be changed and we can always come back to and it will be what we remember it being. Even classic+ will eventually look like a completely different game, just like retail does.
Also, to say that Era has to go away so that Classic+ can survive is the same notion that retail players have said about classic since day one. Die hard retail players have been saying classic was “dead” or “trash” since day one because they don’t to fracture their game. Like classic being good ruins their game somehow. A lot of us Era players wouldn’t go back to retail if it went away, and a lot of us wouldn’t go to classic+ if it came. just let us play the game we know we enjoy.
Not on ERA at any point ever… so don’t pretend for a sec that we want Era messed with,.
i hope with sod we can put behind the notion of classic plus.
im already playing classic plus
Completely agree with you. I believe we are in the same camp. I don’t enjoy retail, and I’ve exhausted content on vanilla as much as I love it. IMO SoD is not Classic Plus, as I said I personally want to see a vanilla expansion, I don’t know how that gets implemented and how everyone is kept happy, again without further fragmenting the player base. These latest blue post changes are BS. But it can’t be denied the player base is dwindling and pvp progress is near impossible without BG weekends. Sorry I’m mostly just talking aloud
To be honest, i don’t know what you’re talking about with the dwindling numbers thing. I’ve been on Whitemane for about 2 years now and I haven’t really had issues with ranking when I’ve really wanted to. Especially not lately… Ranking has always been a pain in vanilla. that’s why they nerfed it when they did. It’s a sweaty thing to do, and it’s not for everyone. The game has been plenty alive in my opinion. I see people around the world all the time. And again, Era has been here first and has been desired for a VERY long time. Even if classic+ kicks off, they need to keep Era around because there will always be a market for it if they don’t screw it up.
who are you in pasta?
I primarily play on EU Firemaw cluster. It’s by no means dead, but player base has dwindled since SoD, and to your point it has fluctuated between releases of SoD, this is the problem that I think would be further perpetuated in a release of Classic Plus. Ultimately I agree Vanilla should be enshrined, and perhaps my gripe is that SoD is not yet classic plus, and not yet how I want to see a Vanilla expansion unfolding….oh whelp
I think at this point, it’s kind of up to the playerbase to either move to private servers, start hosting their own, or be the adults that we are and build competing businesses…
Either that, or just keep on playing the game however they give it to us.
SOD is their idea of classic plus if you didn’t noticed.
I no longer have any confidence this WoW classic team has any clue why Classic is even Classic. How can I rely on them to know what players ACTUALLY want in a Classic+? It’s become apparent their hubris leads them to develop what THEY want, not what the players want.
R.I.P July 11th 2024.
While I’m strongly in favour of Classic+, I think the timing on this discussion maybe isn’t the best and that Era needs our support right now.
Do what you like but I think I’m going to refrain from participating in discussions surrounding changes for a bit as I personally believe that the focus needs to stay on Blizzard’s unrequested and unnecessary changes to Classic Era.
The same thing that actual Era players who actually play on Era have always wanted since 2019 or earlier.
Nothing. Absolutely nothing. Stop molesting Era. Literally all they have to do to keep Era players happy is not touch anything. But like a fidgety toddler with ADHD they keep touching it.
This, 100%. Just leave it alone. We’re happy and we’re paying you.
