I’ll be addressing the longevity of classic and its well being for success. Some of what I have to say might trigger a few, but what I state is coming from hard facts and statics. If you’re faint of heart leave now… If you’re a purist please stay.
No matter how much you want the original “CLASSIC” experience, it will NEVER be the same as you once had. Maybe for the first few days, maybe weeks…And this is not to say that we won’t be having fun. The simple fact is… We have all played the content at one point or not, maybe some of it will be fresh and maybe some of us are actually new, but for the majority of the community, we have already gone through it. I’ve played during vanilla, but was so young that I couldn’t really grasp the whole game as a whole…With that point in mind. Do you remember how everything was so amazing when we were younger? How old TV shows, holidays were all magical? Think about it hard… All of that still can be nostalgic, but they often don’t hold the same sensation we once had. Everyone here coming back to Classic has they’re own reasons as to why they want to play. It’s hard to blame anyone though, with how many customization’s and how free willed our characters were back during the golden days compare to now…
I want to stress this one major factor for classics success… UPDATES AND CHANGE NEED TO HAPPEN… Now hold on, put those pitch forks and nooses down!!! Each and every one of you know this deep down, that with out some change and updates… The game will simply die and become redundant once the final phase rolls out. One of the biggest leading factors of success is the amount of content being pushed out…I GET IT THOUGH!!! We have PURIST, the people who want to relive those days when they were in this big vast world of unknown… But guess what… all those people need to wake up and realize reality…I don’t want to put a damper on anyone, because deep down… I want that feeling again too…But the sad truth is, it wont happen. At least not for long… With all the advancements with the internet, videos, media and guides… You’re no longer going to be that same noob running around not knowing what you’re doing… Your probably already planning how to Min/Max your character, looking at every guide possible and taking time off… Was that the glory days we all remembered? I THINK NOT…
What I want to pose to everyone is this.
As a community, lets accept classic wow as the authentic version that it is for NOW…BUT when things get slow or when the last phase is rolled out…Accept that we need new content, and allow the community to speak freely about it without the NO CHANGE mentality that only a select few actually have and others are simply just falling in on. I can’t stress this enough, change is a must and change is healthily for any MMO’s success.
My solution is to implement a polling system, similar to what RuneScape has done for their oldschool servers. This allows the devs to showcase what can POSSIBLY be done and what COULD be added IF the community agrees on it. The polls would of course need to be in the communities majority favor. (Example would be, 70-75% Yes to pass) This content could be minor things like the barber shop for role-players to custom new content such as new alternate bosses and new story lines.
There’s so much more POTENTIAL for classic than just staying in the PAST or re-releasing old expansions.
If you TRULY want the best for classics future, accept change, listen and make yourself HEARD!
This is a example of my statements
RuneScape, most of you know of it, its a MMORPG similar to that of WoW.
Over the years, the game changed so much that today you wouldn’t even know what it once ways… The players spoke out and fought and they finally got they’re old-school servers. Jagex gave the power to the players by implementing a polling system that required 75% to pass. So in turn, no content would be put in without the majority wanting it. The funny thing is, the community had purist and wanted the game to stay the same with no changes or updates… For the first few months, guess what happen? NONE of the content ever passed the polls, and you wanna know what the results were? The player count dropped and dropped… After players reached end game contend and played hours to reach those amazing milestones… They had nothing else to strive for, nothing else to do but relive the same content ENDLESSLY.
After awhile, when players finally realized that times have changed and dropped they’re NO CHANGE mentality, the game finally started seeing updates, not just past updates that were in favor of the community, but NEW CUSTOM CONTENT! Content that even the main game didn’t see, alterations and new mysteries to explore… And guess what? IT WORKED! 6 years later from old schools release and the population is higher than ever! All thanks to UPDATES AND CHANGE!
Sincerely
~ Cam
