The FTC is filing a complaint about Microsoft/Activision Blizzard layoffs

TL;DR: The merger was supposed to be about Activision Blizzard being independent, they’re claiming the layoffs were called by Microsoft so the FTC is mad about it

They’re trying to push another way to dismantle the merger deal

Business as usual. Nothing to see.

It will be the perfect irony if MS does lose and has to spend even more effort to de merge itself with Activision Blizzard. So good luck FTC.

Suggest =/= ensure.

Nothing will come of the complaint. Microsoft will insist that the jobs that were eliminated were overlapping with other jobs within the gaming division and/or were overstaffed and that the autonomy isn’t affected with the staff reduction.

At most, Microsoft may “dedicate” some resources from the remaining gaming division to ActiBlizz team in order to say that a divestiture would be possible should it be required.

Can claim whatever you want, doesn’t mean its true

The FTC is probably just upset because they lost the merger lawsuit and Microsoft completed it before they could appeal.

The FTC staff serves at the President’s pleasure so Microsoft’s best hope to avoid having a thorn in it’s side all of it’s life is that the President gets annoyed by it’s pointless harassment of Microsoft and fires the staff to get them to stop.

It appears Trade Chat has leaked into my GD.

Overpaid bureaucrats attempting to muddle in businesses to justify their otherwise useless existence and ill-deserved bloated salaries.
