It’s really that simple… we need a laugh react. Discourse, the forum software we are using, has the ability to add other reacts instead of just a heart. Many posts deserve a laugh react to their posts.
A laugh react would add more spirit and charm to the forum and allow posters to become more engaged with the topics and posts. While keeping the down vote option out since it could be used as a means to troll and upset posters, a laugh react would liven the thread in a positive way.
I think emoji reacts that aren’t blatant would be good. I disliked the downvote/upvote system, but would be fine with a few options. Make sure to include this one…it’s awesome.
I preferred the upvote/downvote system. It gave a clear interpretation of what the playerbase wanted/supported, and what they clearly think is unnecessary to themselves or game development time.
I remember a lot complaining about their posts receiving hundreds of downvotes….and frankly if 100s of players thought your post was unhelpful and terrible then…yes maybe it shouldn’t be shoved up there with other actual requests with player support.
If you ever checked out those posts, they were either obvious trolling, or things already said and clearly just to annoy players, or try to spam and force a repeated opinion (like “I WANT HIGH ELVES”) everywhere they could, just to be antagonistic…
It’s silly that in this day and age we are so terrified of even marginally having someone’s feelings potentially hurt that we keep going to such lengths.
If anything I felt the downvote feature kept troll posts and trolling more in check with a large pool of committed players clicking the button in agreement.
While i agree that having the like/dislike was better, it was really only an indication of what the forum community liked or didn’t like, that wasn’t always consistent with what the overall player base wanted.
That probably wouldn’t work in these forums. The laugh react would just be used as a troll or “dislike” button. So, people who would get “laughed at” would probably start reporting everyone for hate speech…or something.
Uhh, btw, I’m for more options like that, lol. And the dislike button being brought back.
