The flaws of Covenants have already been exposed

There is too much tied into covenants when it comes to soul binds, conduits, quest lines, daily quests, renown, etc. BlizZard strongly feels this is the defining feature of this expansion and they are deciding to stick with their choices with little flexibility.

We don’t know, but that’s not really on customers. We can only talk about what we can see. “Don’t talk about it until you see the whole thing” is exactly what people said about Azerite and other systems. Didn’t work out well.

Part of living in this world is making predictions based on past events. Expecting something different from a similar set of inputs is usually not a good idea.

Feedback

“information about reactions to a product, a person’s performance of a task, etc. which is used as a basis for improvement.”

“do you think this rotten egg taste good on this steak?” - “no it tastes horrible”
“would you like to add rotten egg to your steak?” - “no that would taste horrible”

You don’t need to experience something to give feedback.

We know enough to predict with reasonable accuracy that covenants will be a train wreck, and that since blizzard isn’t really listening to feedback on the system as a whole, they will be reworking it throughout the expac, just like azerite gear.

When has Blizzard been as transparent about the weaknesses of their systems as they have been recently? When did they acknowledge “Y’know, respeccing Azerite might feel really bad, so we’ve got a plan B just in case it’s as bad as you guys think?”

Talk about it! Be concerned! The people that are vocally against Covenants talk like the system has already failed, though. I’d much, much rather have conversations about what could be done to make the system fun and interesting than having the basis be “Nah, Blizz sucks, they can’t do it, scrap it.”

“Would you like your steak with a mystery ingredient?” “No, I hate it”

You don’t have to have experience, but you do need all the information.

Edit:

“Nope, already failed, Blizz sucks, scrap it”

Some people are just smarter and can accurately assess information and form conclusions

They did already fail the moment they tied character power to aesthetics and story beyond class fantasy.

So… What happens in 10.0 when your “meaningful choice” is forcefully ripped from your hands for the next system?

Lol OP hidden again. Remember, the report button is not a “I have no valid arguments against you” button.

#PullTheRipcord and do it before release.

Very few people are saying to just delete Covenants. Pretty sure you know that. Personally, I am vocally against the system as it is presented today. I’m not going to stop being vocal about it just because Blizzard might be hiding something behind their backs.

Give feedback, not that feedback, talk about it, don’t talk about it this way.

There’s no conversation to be had when you start off on an adversarial foot. All it is is screaming at each other. Frankly, it’s boring and unproductive.

Couple of things: people don’t accept the premise that they must be convincing for you. They aren’t here to start a debate with you unless they explicitly say they are.

Also, this stuff is directed at Blizzard. Nobody comes here looking to fight with Samtaya. When you jump in between people and feedback directed at Blizzard then yes, it might start coming your way too, but at the end of the day this isn’t about you.

New dev team. :sunglasses: I can dream right?

Let me feel important! Nah, I’m not that arrogant.

You’re not going to have a productive conversation with Blizzard by screaming at them, either. If they’re the enemy as many people seem to believe, why are you supporting them while you scream about them being horrible?

Wish I could stick around and continue talking about this, but real life calls!

You can still choose to make that choice and have the significant lasting affects by sticking with the covenant even if they are freely swappable.

There’s nothing that would force you to change.

Personally, I’ve cut my purchases down from many cash shop transactions, collectors editions, 6 month sub blocks, the works down to maybe one month at a time every 3 months. Shadowlands is the first expansion since BC’s midnight launch that I haven’t bought up front.

I have plenty of disposable income that I’d like to give Blizzard if they can show they’re a company worth supporting.

I like to have access to all of my class abilities.

It doesn’t need to be freely changeable with a tome, but if my covenant ability is great in raid and useless in arena (this is common and WILL happen), I want to be able to change it at some point in the week when I’m done raiding.

I just want to highlight that balancing the following is actually far worse than people think:

  1. Tank Balance
  2. Healer Balance
  3. DPS Balance
  4. 4 separate Covenants powers and signature abilities.
  5. Conduits
  6. Legendaries

Given M+, raiding, and PvP game modes, you take the above 6 levels (each with multiple levels within them) and it quickly becomes 18. If I scrutinized all the various levels within each of those factors - for example, 24 separate dps specs - this quickly morphs into a balancing sh*tshow.

…and I’m not even talking about perfect balance. I’m just hoping for ~5% variability.

Inspired by the immortal bards of Devo, I present a little dity for your consideration:

Step on a crack
Break your momma’s back
When a problem comes along
You must rip it
Before the cream sits out too long
You must rip it
When something’s going wrong
You must rip it
Now rip it
Into shape
Shape it up
Get straight
Go forward
Move ahead
Try to detect it
It’s not too late
To rip it
Rip it good

Now that song will be in your head all day long. You’re welcome!

Everyone will pre-order the 10.0 expansion while simultaneously complaining about the game, like usual.
