In 9.1: The First Move quest is auto-accepted by the game. This marks any 9.0 Torghast storyline as complete, even if it hadn’t been completed, and regardless of whether or not you talk to Bolvar.
I had only gotten up to rescuing Baine and unlocking the Runecarver, before the quest popped up. I tried abandoning the quest several times, but it still auto-accepts it. I did/do have BtWQuests addon enabled, but that does not interact with picking up or turning in quests - it simply shows the order of the story.
Edit: I also logged onto one of my level 60 alts with no addons enabled, who also had not completed the 9.0 storyline and was in Dalaran. As soon as I zoned into Oribos the quest was auto-accepted by the game, and any 9.0 progress I had made was lost.
I’m having the same issue. I had just completed the Baine rescue one the day before 9.1 came out. Next day I couldn’t continue the quest chain and it was my first time playing through it. I did not want to continue with 9.1 till I was ready but it forced itself on me. They have the “replay videos” but I wanted to experience the content first hand, not watch some catch-up video. I stopped playing that character as it really irritated me.
Sorry to dredge up an older topic, but it seems like this is still an issue as of September.
I haven’t been able to play for several months, and left off on finding clues to Thrall’s location (“Lest the Trail Go Cold”). When I logged in (still in Ardenweld), the quest to find him was still in my log, but when I traveled to Oribos “The First Move” popped up and auto-accepted, and removed the 9.0 content from my log, and is flagging them all as complete. :\
I understand some people want to skip right to the current content, and giving them that option is great, but I was really looking forward to completing the storyline for myself, so being forced to skip ahead is very disappointing. :c

I’m sorry that you couldn’t experience the 9.0 content before it was removed (I also didn’t even know it was removed!). Since this probably isn’t a bug, though, you best bet is to write a thread about this on General Discussion, maybe suggesting a feature to continue with the 9.0 content some other way - like through one of those NPCs that lets you go to the past or something. I’m sure you have ideas.
You can also submit a suggestion in-game via the Submit a Suggestion feature located in Customer Support.
And, yes, for the record, I do agree with you: being forced to skip ahead is a bit disappointing. Or, rather, not having the option to complete the old content is what stinks. I was actually specifically putting off doing Korthia on my alt until I finished with all that, but knowing that it’s not in the game anymore… well, I suppose it’s time!
It is likely a bug since they originally stated the 9.0 Torghast quests are only supposed to be auto-completed if you use the Korthia intro skip, which is offered well after the auto-accepted quest mentioned here.

Well, if that’s the case, then this is certainly an appropriate forum for it. My bad, and thank you for the correction.
Although I’d still recommend submitting a suggestion anyway, as it can’t hurt.
