A problem that has persisted since the inception of warmode, and now seems to have worsened with the levelling changes, where more people are in the same zone at once, corpse camping by max level players is an experience most if not all will face. High/max level players have no incentive to pvp fresh level 20s, and yet they persist out of sheer spite. The obvious response defenders of this camping give is something in line of “You knew what you signed up for when you turned warmode on”, but this simply is not true. The intent of warmode is obvious, stimulate world PvP by giving out an experience bonus to those using it, it’s a risk vs reward system where the assumption lies in that you will always have a chance to fight back in an altercation, and that is not true. The trend with warmode is that those of equal or similar level will almost never provoke or attack you, and whether you’re level 20 or level 49, there will be level 50 characters who will execute you in under 3 attacks solely to worsen the experience of other players. World of Warcraft has become a game of praying the next zone you level in is actually playable, or will you be forced to wait for the max level party of 15 druids who are camping a quest turnin to leave. My questions are as follows. Why enable this form of griefing at all, for what reason are max level players even allowed to initiate combat with players as low as 20, and subsequently, if this is an intentional and crucial part of the warmode experience, then why bind such a substantial experience gain increase to it, if the system over all will only lead to frustration for the average player. Over the lifespan of BFA I had my corpse camped a number of times but it was a few isolated incidents at best. Within the prepatch, with the 3 new characters I have leveled, corpse camping has been a constant and daily occurrence, both alliance and horde side. You have entire bands of max level players acting in what is essentially allowed griefing. If it really is a matter of “just turn it off” then don’t even give it the experience bonus, because it isn’t a question of skill, or gamesense or anything else, you have no way to retaliate against a max level player below max level yourself, even at max level someone with an inflated enough gear score will be unbeatable 10/10 times. If you want to stimulate world pvp through warmode, make it situated within level brackets, at the very least make max level players only able to initiate with other max level players, because max level is far from a single level in terms of powercreep when you take into account growing item levels and passives. If low level players are expected to just live with being stuck in unwinnable stalemates, being forced out of their zone or bullied into turning off warmode, do not bind such a major experience bonus to it. Nobody below level 50 uses warmode to pvp, they use it as an experience bonus. Nobody at max level uses warmode to pvp, they use it to grief level 20s.
That is pvp, so how about you turn off warmode if you don’t like it.
did you read anything other that concluding sentence
Oh I did, and if you don’t like the way warmode is just turn it off. It really is just that simple
I have no issue with world PvP, I have an issue with the world pvp system not being a world pvp system. For sub 50 players, warmode is a 10-35% experience bonus, that is a substantially faster levelling process, especially now with the level squish. Nobody turns on warmode at level 20 planning to pvp with it, they turn it on for the experience, and that is not me saying that “people should stop pvping if they have warmode turned on because it’s mean”, that would be idiotic, I am saying that blizzard has bound a substantial experience increase to a system that allows you to then be camped obsessively by max level players who have literally no incentive to do so, other than to grief. “Just turn it off” is such a bad solution to the issue. Why have the experience bonus at all if this is meant to be an intended consequence.
You’re acknowledging by turning on war mode you will receive an XP buff and enabled for open world PvP. You really shouldn’t be upset with how others play in open world PvP.
I get that you want the XP buff but you have to also understand what comes with that when you’re out questing and the opposing faction sees you.
When I started playing wow I loved the PVP server aspect. So this is why I turn on wm and the XP bonus is just an extra.
It really do be like that sometimes.
Okay, yes, I agree entirely, I am not saying world PvP is a bad thing, nor am I saying I should be given free XP and not have to worry about being killed, I am saying there is a serious issue in the way that max level players are allowed to grief people who are levelling. It’s not a matter of “turn it off if you don’t like it” or “you’re just bad”, it’s a matter of being at level 20, entering a zone and having an entire raiding group of enemy faction players killing questers and camping on quest turnin spots and graveyards. This is not an issue of “I don’t like being killed in world pvp” this is an issue of “There are people abusing this system”. I understand corpse camping has been a thing since the inception of WoW on PvP servers, but I would argue it has never been an issue to this extent. Many others I know and play this game with along with myself have been in these unwinnable and honestly ridiculous encounters where you have a horde of people who can easily oneshot you with an auto attack kill you, stay on your corpse and near all the nearby graveyards. You cannot even turn warmode off in these situations, it becomes not an option as you can’t reach a rest area, even reviving at a graveyard and hearthing away is nonviable because they are already waiting there for you. It actually becomes a war of attrition seeing who just logs off first. I am NOT AT ALL opposed to open world PvP, I am opposed to systems that allow this to happen. The issue is not in the pvp, the issue is in the scale of the abuse. Level 50s are not pvping level 50s, sub 50s are not pvping at all. “if you don’t like it just turn it off” is probably the dumbest response given and yet it’s the one everyone gives. Nobody LIKES being corpse camped, nobody thinks of it as a fun or enjoyable experience, you turn on warmode and it isn’t world pvp, it’s “hope the quester killing guild isn’t flying circles in gorgrond today”. You die, you revive, you die again or you log off. There’s no cooldown on them being able to kill you, there’s nothing barring them from oneshotting you, they don’t get any honor or experience or conquest or anything, they simply do it to worsen the experience of others. This IS NOT world PvP this is griefing, there is a distinction and it is greatly amplified by the scale in which it now occurs
Turn off warmode.
Don’t generalize!
On my alts, I turn Warmode on for the added risk, the occasional PVP that happens, and the “thrill” of it all.
The experience increase is only a secondary benefit for me.
And yes, ganking is a part of it. Got ganked? Call a friend or get your main to teach the ganker a lesson!
Don’t speak for other people.
I think if you do chromie time it should let you phase away from level 50s.
Honestly I really like the “danger” of playing in wm on but that’s just me
This is kinda fixed with Chromie Time though. If you’re not leveling in War Mode Chromie Time, you’re doing it wrong. It’ll phase you in with only players of similar level or level bracket. You dont really have to worry about max levels ganking you but you’ll probably have to worry about twinks ganking you.
Also the experience bonus isn’t really a “bonus.” It’s to offset the time spent PvPing and being ganked or camped. Think of it, if you’re someone being camped by other players out in War Mode, and you only have War Mode for the experience boost, you’re spending more time dead than you are actually questing and leveling. You’re better off at that point to turn off War Mode and quest without worrying about being camped. You’re wasting time at that point, and could’ve avoided it all.

Boo Hoo, OP.
How many times does it have to be said? If you don’t want to get ganked, turn off war mode. When leveling, I rarely if ever see other players of the opposite faction. Not to mention, you can max a toon in a few days, the real world PVP experience is available at max level where it’s more fun anyways because everyone is the same level.
Paragraphs must not be in war mode.
amen brother no way am I reading that wall of text
Just stopped by to say 2 things:
