The Fate of the Kirin Tor

Per the content reveal post for Patch 11.0.7 from earlier today:

Explore the Fate of the Kirin Tor

Delve into the aftermath of Dalaran’s fall in The War Within epilogue questline—the Kirin Tor must confront their past mistakes and decide on the future course of their people.

I know many of us on the forums have been mages for a very long time, some from the very beginning, and as such have lived through all the turmoil and profound changes that Dalaran and the Kirin Tor have gone through over the years. Given that unique perspective I am really curious to find out what mage players want to see for Dalaran as the World Soul Saga continues to unfold.

Personally, I would love to see Dalaran return to its original location on the shores of Lake Lordamere and to use its restoration as a springboard to bring about a renaissance for the whole of the Eastern Kingdoms, most notably Lordaeron and Quel’Thalas.

Though the near total destruction of Dalaran by Xal’atath was a grievous blow, the pieces are in place to rebuild much more quickly than before. When Dalaran was initially invaded by Arthas, Kel’Thuzad and their Scourge forces and then later razed to the ground by Archimonde the Kirin Tor was severely weakened, its ranks depleted, and there were no prospects for outside help. The world is in a much different state now. Dalaran’s neutrality has been well established at this point and the Kirin Tor and Tirisgarde boast members from both the Alliance and the Horde and can call on either faction for aid. Suramar and the Nightborne also owe Dalaran a great debt for the vital part it played in liberating them from Elisande’s tyranny and Gul’dan’s machinations and will also no doubt answer the call for aid. The same goes for the Blue Dragon Flight and Kalec. In addition to all of that, Dalaran’s original location stands on a major convergence of leylines that could be used to great effect in augmenting the magic that will be used to rebuild the city.

From there it’s a straight shot to Lordaeron and channeling the already established supply lines to help restore it as well. Then we can set our sights on Quel’Thalas and Silvermoon where both the Silver Covenant and the Sunreavers can play a major part in not only restoring their former kingdom but also healing the rift between their two factions as well. And we already know Silvermoon and the Sunwell will play a major part in the next expansion so, again, the pieces are already set for that as well.

To this day one of the most profound in-game events I ever participated in was the involved quest line to rebuild Quel’Danas back in BC and I would love to be a part of something like that again. The rebuilding of Dalaran presents the perfect opportunity!

Really curious to see what everyone else thinks!

The many player mages, as well as myself, have followed the Kirin Tor throughout the expansions and its changes, with the latest being the destruction of Dalaran. So what can we expect for the future of this organization? Will they finally join the Alliance? Will a new Dalaran be founded on the Isle of Dorn? Or will a new Dalaran rise to the sky again?

I think the most likely and most interesting option would be the construction of a new Dalaran on the Isle of Dorn.

Additionally, Blizzard mentioned that the Kirin Tor must face its past mistakes.

The Kirin Tor took no action when Garithos took control of the ruins of Dalaran and imprisoned the blood elves at the time of the Third War.

The organization also remained neutral for almost the entire period after the Third War, even though it was a founding human kingdom of the Lordaeron Alliance, having such close ties with humans from other kingdoms and also after several wars that put the Alliance at risk.

The Kirin Tor would also have some level of blame for the purge of Dalaran that took place in Mists of Pandaria, when Jaina, its leader at the time, with the help of the Silver Pact, expelled all the blood elves from the city.

Curious to know what will come with this Kirin Tor story, about facing its past mistakes and plans for the future.

The destruction of Dalaran gives wow devs an excellent opportunity to rebuild it. When the city first came out, it was a magical experience. But over the years, I felt like the city was really too small and not really representative of a magical society. The sewers were taken over by pvp and the rogue community. I want the city to fly again; but this time, I want more districts that are more magical themed. I want to see a huge magical library, etc.

I always hated how they never even opened most of the doors in the Violet Citadel. It felt like you couldn’t really explore most of the city except for the shops, inns, and banks which by their nature aren’t very magical. The shiny new tower they added in the central part of the city in Legion helped address this somewhat but it just didn’t go nearly far enough and I wasn’t a big fan of the fact that it just teleported you some where else. I understand there were technical limitations that necessitated that but still, it didn’t feel great.
