The Failure of the Evoker and the Difficulty of Making New Classes

why are you saying all the hot zoomer buzzwords while ignoring what is actually being said? Because you have no case? You’re just being that guy?

Yes, absolutely. Moving the goalpost aside, you are right.

You just look like you’re complaining about them being ‘woke’ and writing a paragraph when you could just say that.

What standard? You only complained about the devs/writers without bringing forth any actual information to why.

Some form of dragon that includes wings, flight, a body type that’s not just “ogre but scaly”, abilities akin to dragons - if you scale models like Onyxia’s concept art to a player size you’ll get something a lot closer to a dracthyr than a drakonid.

Evoker has like almost every single dragon boss mechanic (scalecommander even has Onyxia’s add phase lmao) and unlike DH and DK it didn’t require nuking warlock specs to get there.

Can you post it?
I’ve never heard of this- I assume you mean asmongold?
I’m talking about people wanting to play dragons, drakonids, dragonkin and visage into their favourite playable races since Classic and TBC.
“Credit where credit is due” then dismissing what came before some clowny youtuber a few years ago is a bit of weird energy.

oh, sorry, you must have missed the comment people are melting down about:

why are you typing/replying already? You clearly still haven’t read it.

  • Only one race option, that a lot of people thought was fairly ugly. Most people wanted the Draconids, not the slimmed down Dracthyr. There are a ton of people that won’t play a class if their personal race option doesn’t exist.
  • Almost zero transmog options in their form that you are required to use constantly to do content. Most people I talk to really hate this part.
  • The lack of range on the class messes with a lot of long time players. The 5 yards feels extremely restricting. Pair this with really weird/unique movement skills and it’s a nightmare to learn for long time players of other casters.
  • Charge casts are a new mechanic a lot of people really aren’t fond of. They just don’t feel great to use, and dropping the cast entirely on moving is just painful.
  • The DPS specs are interesting but their rotations have always been fairly lacking in dynamics. You flap, you disintegrate/pyre/fire bolt. It’s pretty boring, and why I don’t play one personally.

So, the way I see it, it’s not a failed class, it’s a class that appeals to a small niche of players. There’s a stark difference. The class performs and plays as expected and keeps up just fine. People just aren’t a fan of the many minutia of things that could be better.

Evoker hasn’t failed, it’s also the newest class and most went back to the classes they’re comfortable with… I believe it’s more of a aesthetic thing, people don’t wanna be these skinny, ugly dragons. If they allowed us to stay in visage form or maybe play another race… I think you’d see a spike in the evoker numbers.

Both healing and dps are a lot of fun to play on Evoker.

You want to play a dragon… while being an elf?

I’m playing an elf because I’m a druid and on the Alliance side… I’m waiting for Harronir, when that comes.

Incidentally the idea that drakonids would have had more transmog is completely silly (and setting that aside, I still don’t get the obsession with transmog in a form where most draconic NPCs do not wear anything except for the odd breasplate for one subrace of dragonkin)

Out of your entire comment, this is the only part with any tangible value to the discussion.

And one that i actually agree with. The race option for Dracthyr should have been their visage option.

This kid’s response:

You’re clearly here in bad faith to troll.

Counterpoint: I like the dragons. I just wish I could wear more transmog on them

You asked to delete a race that has more players than yours at level cap so let’s not kid ourselves about your good faith here.

This guy actually hits it on the head more than I do. We asked for and still want drakonids, not the nawt-dragon dracthurs

That I feel is another issue among the evoker players… I want my transmog to show through, not this incredibly limited color combination of ugly armors they are offering.

I don’t disagree with that, and personally the transmog isn’t an issue. I like how my Dracthyr looks quite thoroughly personally, and don’t feel the need for the extra gear looks. But I was parroting the complaints I often hear when asking this question around to people who dislike playing it.
