The faction imbalance is going to strangle this game

Which is that of participation

Which is current mythic raiding, which is not relevant to this discussion, and is being used as the primary reason to try and dismiss my argument.
Ergo, you are literally attacking the individual with a baseless accusation to dismiss their argument.
An ad hominem.

It isn’t hard, these are mutually exclusive concepts.

So do you have anything to add to this discussion? Or are you going to stand there, flimsily defending your attacks which have been demonstrated to hold no weight or relevancy?

Yes?
No?
Maybe so?

Guess you’re being playing the circus.

At this point I want it to happen too. Give all the “me smash me kill coward alliance” people no more targets. Take away merc mode as well.

I can see the appeal to doing cross faction play, but I do not believe it would be healthy for the game. If anything, people would just see it as a reason to transfer Horde.

This is exactly what happened in RIFT.
RIFT went with cross faction gameplay because the Ascended faction (alliance), had less participation in raids/pvp than Defiants (Horde).
What happened?
Even more people went Defiant. Simply because it meant they had more people to play with and engage in activities with, without having to deal with the jarring experience of different quests and inability to participate in PvP.

Alliance didnt “win the war at all” because blizzard doesnt have common sense in fact and is a game of 2 factions.

Method and others top guilds just care about racials.

One of the changes that helped kill what was…early on (minus bugs)…a really fun game. Admittedly it was already going south when that happened but it was one of the nails in Rift’s coffin. Shame, I had a blast on my Sab/Bard build

It’s a different circumstance. I have no confidence in Blizzard being able to properly construct an Alliance vs Horde scenario at this point. They’ve tried it ever since MoP but give up midway through the expansion because we all have to band together to kill the big bad. In MoP Garrosh went crazy and we all had to kill him. In WoD there’s the Iron Horde and the Legion. In Legion they didn’t even try to do the Alliance vs Horde thing apart from a few throwaway scenes with Genn and Sylvanas. BfA? Effectively gave up on the prospect in 8.2 with Azshara and N’zoth. Shadowlands? From what we see now, it’s all about stopping Sylvanas and the Jailer.

The whole humans vs orcs setting works when it’s just humans and orcs. There’s currently 22 races in the game though, 24 when 8.3 drops. There’s a lot of nuance in the setting now. What reason would a tauren have to attack a night elf, and vice versa (with exception to Tyrande since she’s most likely driven mad with revenge at this point). What beef do draenei have with the Darkspear? Why would a dark iron dwarf care more about killing a Nightborne than they would any Alliance member, besides the fact that Moira’s just telling them not to kill the latter?

I believe this is partially to due with the fact that it is an MMO, and that the two factions are playable. So you really can’t create a convincing story because it isn’t a single player experience. The story is well crafted for WC1 through WC3, but once you hit WoW, those moments become far and few between.

That’s a great supporting argument for “Alliance Raiders…heal thyselves” because as you point out…

FM has always had a very good raid scene, the best out of all OCE realms and its always been an alliance server, but how many of those Top guilds on FM in BFA are actually horde guilds that transferred for a bigger pool of players to choose from? There are quite a few.

In the top 20 you have 5 i know, off the top of my head.

Alliance don’t even have to win. They just have to have a storyline. Shouldn’t there be a whole arc about the tensions between all the Alliance factions? You have the Dwarves who should be constantly at odd due to the Council of the Three hammers. The Night Elves virtually go wiped out so they should be picketing Stormwind. The Draenei and Lightforged should be asking Anduin and Alleria WTF they were thinking with the Void Elves. The Gnomes should have progressed in some form in their retaking of Gnomeregan in the last 10 years. The Worgen should be wondering what the hell they are doing now that their pee pee tree is gone.

But theres been zero, nothing, nada.

Really don’t want this thread to Die, since the faction divide is what holds this game back the most.

Orcs VS Humans doesn’t belong in the Warcraft universe.

In Warcraft 1, this game was originally just going to be a Warhammer clone.

By the time we got around to WC3, The story was never about Alliance vs Horde, It was about the united races of Azeroth standing together against the burning legion.

In Vanilla, there were WAY more quests about the Twilight’s hammer cult and the Silithid than there were about Horde vs Alliance.

In BC, we had to team up again Illidan, and Kil’jaden.

Wrath of the Lich King saw Horde and Alliance side by side at the Wrathgate.

Cataclysm united us against Deathwing and the Twilight’s hammer.

Pandaria united us against the Tyrant Garrosh, and had Horde leadership directly work together with Alliance leadership.

WoD was Garrosh again, then Demons.

Legion was Demons.

Is anyone catching onto a Theme here? The story of Warcraft has been about “Putting aside our differences and working together” since the very beginning.

Any time Blizzard tries to make a war scenario they just disappoint. because to everyone’s surprise, we put aside our differences and work together. Again. Yet in game, where it really matters, we aren’t allowed to work together?

Horde RP is dead there.

This is pretty my the core argument against any notion that the lore doesn’t allow for cross faction game-play, at this point we have had to go from a position of working together to a forced conflict so many times it’s laughable.

This game vaguely started from a notion that the totality of the Horde and the totality of the Alliance were in a black and white conflict; today we have “come together” so many times in such important ways, that not having this be manifested in the game by allowing us to play with each other just doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

People can make arguments against the mechanical implications and side effects of implementing cross faction content, arguments that can be dismantled fairly easily, but at least you can make an argument.

The lore on the other hand? Give me a break, they’ve gone to that well so many times themselves that it’s nonsense to imply we shouldn’t be able to as well.

i really like my normal/lightforged draenei races Alliance side, and sometimes Night Elves too. If I can be one of those races for a class, I am. That and the high cost of faction changing 11? characters and having to play a race I am not particularly drawn to just kills it for me. I mean, I like UD, but seperated from my account and the professions I have access to over on the other side kind of makes Horde feel empty for me too.

This was one of the things I really really liked about FFXIV, one race , all jobs and could transfer anywhere for what, 10 dollars? And the realms were mostly linked anyhow and you could just go to your friends realm by using a crystal.

In the beginning it may not have been detrimental, but at this point the tangible results of the faction divide are hurting this game.

Alliance has it sooooo goooood…

I think more people are always going to be interested in the faction that isn’t human-centric in any MMO. That’s just how it is.

It’s good to see this thread alive again.
I’m with OP. The faction divide does nothing for this game other than split the playerbase.

The story of Warcraft has been about teaming up since Warcraft 3, the themes of teamwork and putting aside differences against big threats are the core of the Warcraft universe.

And yet, here we are, unable to team up in game, that way blizzard can make extra money.

Its killed my will to do the only thing I used to love. BG queues are so long now that I don’t even want to do them. I used to do BGs all day long and now I can’t stand to wait 15 min for a regular or 25+ for epic.
