I am trying to get KSM, raid, and get into PvP.
That’s what kills my drive to progress. There will always be a catch up mechanic. For the AP of the month, for your actual gear… it all becomes obsolete so quickly. Why spend weeks grinding away when you’ll be able to reach that same point in an hour or two a few months down the line?
I’m having fun with everything that isn’t Shadowlands content still. I mean, I don’t really need more alts, but I like the pace and reward structure of leveling, and the older zones and stories are more aesthetically pleasing than the 50-60 content to me.
I think that once I get flying, I’ll appreciate Shadowlands more. Leveling through it this time makes me realize how absolutely annoying the layouts are. I absolutely hate traveling through Revendreth, I hate having to fly through Orboros to get to every zone. It feels like they tacked on ridiculous amounts of travel time to cover up the emptiness of each zone.
But I just leveled a fresh warlock in the Ghostlands using Chromie time. That was really great. The music and everything about that zone is so great.
If you actually think it’s a bad expansion you shouldn’t be playing, bc they have no incentive to make “good ones” if people will still play ones considered to be bad.
How could you not? You got that wiggle.

I don’t mind it with gear, because I’m goal oriented. I decide which content I want to do and gear is only a means to that. I get to use the gear for a tier to achieve my goals and I think that is enough. Technically, I could continue playing to farm valor and upgrade my gear… but for what? No point anymore.
As for the anima, I don’t think it will be as much of a catchup as it will be an adjustment, as it is pretty ridiculous right now.
But I get what you mean, I didn’t farm Azerithe on BFA because I knew catchup would put be only 2-3 levels behind my guildies and that was good enough. I was actually glad for it though, because I didn’t want to farm azerithe lol
The problem is that there’s still a lot of good game here, it’s just not current stuff. Also, there’s classic WoW too that keep people subscribed.

I’ve been playing Classic.
I go back to Retail every now and then and force myself through some chores. Just trying to find that click again. It’s just not there in this expansion for some reason. I can’t find it.
Honestly, I’m strange in that I enjoy long, grindy content. Stuff I can zone out to while watching a movie or whatever. If the content becomes irrelevant, so what? Maybe I got a title or a mount or achievement or a unique transmog. I’ll be able to nod in solidarity with anyone I spot with it, even years down the line, because I know we shared the same experience.
Take Netherwings, for example. If you want those mounts, there is an associated grind. The same grind that I did nearly two decades ago. If they suddenly removed the rep requirement and had them unlock with simply the main quest chain… it would be a betrayal. A waste. My time would not be respected.
I think that’s more core issue - the modern game doesn’t respect your time in the slightest. You can play for hours with no progression, even if you’re doing everything “right.” Anything you grind for now will be easier later. And they dictate the terms on your playtime - have time for the Maw or Covenant storyline right now? Too bad! They’ve gated it artificially, killing your momentum and the momentum of the story.
But yeah, gear is a means to an end. Which is why the current rate of acquisition (among other things) frustrated me to the point that I stopped playing entirely.

I truly wish they’d find a way to make the older stuff relevant, outside of the transmog farm.

I started replaying a 5 year old game, adding in mods, more than play WoW and its far more fun right now. That is how I am having fun.

My sub runs out in 15 days will sub back up when 9.1 gets here…only reason why I lasted this long was I like my guild…
That and, I don’t know, make similar quality current stuff.
Also, seems that they’re doing quite the opposite with older stuff. Constantly nerfing gold and everything, to try to make it less attractive. Like, what is their goal with this game lately? To drive people away?

This would be an achieveable goal if they weren’t all burnt out developing loads of content that is discarded every two years.
It’s like trying to build a skyscraper by building the first floor over and over and over.

SL is amazing.
It’s going downhill rapidly… I have done all four covenant quest lines and will have a toon to 40 in each very soon. I’m leveling other toons but well, it’s just kind of boring. I’ve gotten a lot of the pets and a few mounts.
I just don’t know.

That’s going to be a no for me because I haven’t logged on for more than 5 minutes in the last 3 weeks. It annoys me because I want to get my covenant to rank 40, but I just…can’t.
I got AOTC/KSM so now I log on Tuesday and Thursday for my PvP group.
I think the game is in great shape. The worst parts of it are Torghast and the Maw.
Casually leveling, pvping, loremastering.
Unlike many others here, I never force myself to play any game.
Past few weeks I’ve been doing almost bare minimum. 1 or 2 m+ to help guildies, the 2 raid days we have that we use shortcuts to wipe on denathrius earlier. When I’m not on WoW, I’m on Monster Hunter Rise havin a blast.
