The eclipse button feels bad

Maybe its just me. Having an extra button to press, to enter eclipse, feels like garbage. I actually didnt know it was a thing for a day or 3. The way it was before, worked for myself and im sure a lot of others.

It was simpler and, made more sense. Now, i have 2 charges of Chosen of Elune, that dont stack but, ehh. And, the eclipse button. Like, i get it, theres a possibility to always be in an eclipse but, feels like garbage to me.

Perhaps there should be a talent to opt into the old system? Is it remotely possible that would be balance-able :grimacing:?

That or, instead of needing to press wrath or starfire then the eclipse button, an option to have both. Especially at times when theres a mob thats gonna die faster than one eclipse but, quickly going to swap to single target.

Just bring back empowerments. It’s much more in line with their intent to prune and make the game simpler.

Moonkin players are something else man…

This is how I feel, Empowerment have been the best so far from Legion to now.

I like this version more than at least two or three versions of Eclipse we’ve had so far…hard to keep track of them all…

I think there are ways to make it better, but the idea that Eclipse should have lower uptime is something decent to build on imo.

You also get 4 eclipses which makes it feel like a maintenance buff instead of pressing a big cooldown; just make it active all the time and give us something cooler to press, hello? Can’t believe it got through testing this way.

It’s terrible.

But it won’t have lower uptime. The Improved Eclipse talent gives us two charges. We’ll have to trigger an Eclipse and ride it out for 15 seconds and then hit the second charge to trigger Eclipse again. By the time the second Eclipse ends, we’ll have a charge back and need to go back into Eclipse. It’s a pointless change that adds an extra button to my action bar.

Orbital Strike (or whatever it was called) was dope af and felt great to press. Wish they’d do something like that instead of “look! bigger numbers for X number of seconds.”

I think the control is nice, but it just feels a lot less impactful? Am I wrong about that?
Overall balance doesn’t feel as ‘fun’ but I honestly didn’t feel like it was that much fun even before.

I’m probably in the minority, I only liked it when Full Moon could near global people - mostly because i liked the ‘whomp’ sound affect.

I do miss Legion balance sometimes. Those moon spells hit hard back then.

I always go through pretty much all specs in the game during these pre-launch events to see which class I want to take forward into launch. I gotta say, Balance is probably the single most janky feeling spec in the game right now and Eclipse is straight awful. There are a lot of pretty meh specs going into this launch (there usually are) but I think Balance is a true outlier. Blizzard absolutely needs to put more work into this spec, and I say this as someone with no skin in the game (I’m not married to any class).

You hit it perfectly. It just feels clunky. It’d be tolerable if it was still fun to play, or if the eclipse/chosen buffs felt like you were really spicing it up, but at this point the feel like a GCD tax more than a buff. And it interrupts the flow of the class (which has been bouncing between eclipse states for the most part). I also play most class/spec combos but this one has been a favorite for years and it’s disheartening for my favorite to be half-baked going into a new xpac.

It makes the class more clunky. ‘

I think it being on the GCD makes it feel bad, on top of Owlkin Frenzy making lunar eclipse a fast swap and no way to get back to solar unless you hard cast a wrath seem clunky.

I think an update to Owlkin Frenzy, could be your next Wrath or Starfire instant to help have more control over which one procs.

Yeah, I have an 80 of every class and I like to experiment like you.

Balance feels heinous, easily the worst feeling spec for me out of any other, including Devourer.

I also think it feels clunky. I main balance off and on since Wrath, and this expansion will definitely be an off lol.

I know I’m in the minority, and I’m okay with that, but i REALLY miss Cataclysm Balance, with the pendulum that naturally kept swinging.
It was gimmicky, but I think classes need more “gimmicky” to distinguish themselves from others.
Also thematically it made more sense. Druids are casters that abide eclipses – we don’t actually have the power to CAUSE eclipses lol.
So it makes more sense to have natural occurring eclipses, and then we change our spell rotation based on the eclipse we entered.

Then they could have more freedom, too. No more “solar is aoe, lunar is single”..

Also I REALLY miss Hurricane and Insect Swarm. It’s bewildering to me how they removed those nature spells because Moonkins should be “more about stars and astral design” and then gave us a hero tree all about summoning treants and dryads. :eyeroll:

I agree with others that the quickest “fix” here is to just take it off the GCD. If they do this most of us will just macro it to Starfire and Wrath, and at that point I think there will be some people who complain about lack of skill expression. But honestly if expressing my skill with this spec means hitting some weird obligatory .5 second GCD every 15 seconds then I’d rather not express my skill at all.

To be honest, I was never a huge fan of the Eclipse mechanics in general though. It’s a fairly interesting thought to make a spec that has to really commit to AoE or ST every 15 seconds, but the problem is that the class will always be balanced around the assumption that Eclipse is always active and so the mechanics end up just feeling like an arbitrary handicap. I love the animation and theme of the ability but it might be time to change the effect.

It’s easier to call out that something sucks than it is to actually fix it, but it would be cool if Eclipse were still a button but functioned completely differently. Maybe have Wrath accumulate one resource (a la Maelstrom) and Starfire accumulate another resource, and once either of these reach max stacks then Eclipse becomes an instant cast AoE or ST nuke (depending on if it’s Lunar or Solar — ie which stack was maxed out). Using the ability would then clear both stacks (so there would be some opportunity cost). Perhaps a third effect if both stacks are maxed that would have both of these effects simultaneously.

Theming this new ability would be fairly straightforward. Keep the existing Eclipse animations and have Lunar Eclipse trigger an AoE Moonfire (which would be nice since spreading Moonfire feels cumbersome relative to other DoTs in 2026). Solar Eclipse could launch some sort of massive Wrath ball that hits a single target for more than a regular Wrath (and maybe refreshes Sunfire or something).

This isn’t perfect but something like this would be great since it would function roughly like Eclipse in the sense that AoE begets more AoE (and ST more ST) but now it would be a button that makes you say “hell yeah.”
