I realize that some people are jerks and there needs to be a penalty for abandoning a group. But what about those who get kicked and get deserter and it’s only because they got dc’d? Due to the game itself or bad/interrupted internet and or internet issues. A 30-Minute debuff seems unfair in my opinion and I think it should be changed to 10 Minutes max.
It’s entirely fair. Disconnects impact other people.
I didn’t think you got the Deserter debuff if you got kicked.
Anyways, the reason they won’t lessen the Deserter debuff as that would lead to more desertions within dungeons.
Don’t queue for group content if you’re running an internet connection that you know is likely to not hold up for the duration of said content.
That said, unexpected stuff happens and it sucks, but Deserter exists for a reason and making it more lenient would allow abuse by those who it was intended for in the first place.
For example, if it differentiated between a DC and literally leaving the group, people who don’t want to be there for whatever reason would start switching off their internet to leave the group instead of hitting the leave button – to avoid the 30 minute penalty.
Just like people used to troll and hold the group hostage until they got kicked to avoid it, which is why we get the debuff when being kicked now.
Then do something else for 30 minutes. Deserter doesn’t stop you from joining player made group content. It only prevents you from joining a random queue.
Not at all possible for some people. A few years ago I lived somewhere for 10 years straight that had internet speeds of 2.5 mbps. and that was the fastest available for that location. I still played WoW, but sometimes lag was unavoidable. This was from 2012 to 2022.
on the other hand I did get deserter debuffs all the time. But also there was a time when players were more patient with each other. Maybe that should come back.
Prove you didn’t unplug your internet to avoid the deserter debuff.
Players are typically very patient nowadays. I rarely see anyone get even voted unless they are intentionally trolling the group or causing many wipes… which is difficult to do in most queued content.
Anti troll measure.
No way to know if somebody disconnected themselved.
Also if people are constantly disconnecting it does negatively impact other players.
I do think being kicked and getting it is silly. I got kicked by a group of three while healing a halls of atonement on mh leveling priest and i couldnt out heal the monks stagger cause he did an mdi level pull and my heals barely did anything for his hp.
It was unavoidable and those dungeons are meant for my ilvl not theres. But i got locked out of leveling because of it.
I just disagree completely. It should stay. For some things I feel like it should be weighted so if you are in say a losing BG and drop out 30 seconds before the end and someone fills your spot…I feel like it should be longer. It just screws so many other people.
On the internet side of things that is all about judgement. If your internet isn’t good enough to complete the content and that screws over others, or slows them down, or causes someone to get half a dungeon because of a swap…maybe you shouldn’t be playing. Not trying to be harsh but really that is a case where you are being selfish. That said, if it only happens very rarely…not a big deal to just get hit for 30 because of the internet. Complain to your provider rather than to Blizzard maybe?
In short, I think it is fine, and should stay…maybe even be increased for some BG situations.
It exists because over a decade ago when wrath introduced dungeon queue tanks would hold groups hostage in dungeon until they were kicked from the group.
They could then instantly requeue without a penalty cause you only got deserter if you left voluntarily while 4 other people were stuck waiting for a tank that they hoped wouldnt do the same.
It was such a big problem because of occulus and pit that actually finishing one of those dungeons through queue was nearly impossible; tanks or healers would just keep refusing to move or leaving while you found more once their 15 minute minimum was up.
Blizz does not want that to happen again so the deserter on kick stays; id say they could reduce the time but the dungeon finder has the 15 minite minimum queue spacer anyway so any lower then that is kinda moot.
Sucks to be them, but intentionally or not they disrupted the other players in the group.
How can you tell the difference between someone that unplugs their modem and someone that lost service from the provider?
I remember those days well and you are absolutely correct.
The other big deal was the abuse of master loot in raids. Oh look! We just killed the bosses and right after looting the lead dc’s never to return.
As fun as LK was the initial systems didn’t work very well.
