Unless I’m missing something, you have to turn at the exact moment while hitting the jump button to drift? Otherwise you end up jumping instead.
Idk, compared to other games with vehicles I would’ve just preferred a dedicated button to drift instead of making jump multi-function.

honestly the car sucks lol

It’s a pretty awful design choice to make jump and drift be the same button.

Ridiculously dumb to make the car jump with the same button to drift.
This whole idea seems very unpolished. They tried to reinvent the wheel like they did with dragon riding, but in my opinion, they failed.
I’m afraid this patch could kill the hype of the expansion.

DRIVE would have been better if not for the fact outside of the three or so main, clutter-free roads, the thing stops or bounces off any doodad in the way.

Start turning, then hit space.

It needs you to turn first, and then hit jump, otherwise yeah, it just jumps. I was tempted to unbind jump just so I could stop that from happening although I’m not sure if it would disable drifting, too.
Something other than jump would’ve been nice. Maybe make it a ‘channeled’ ability that you could hold down another button with.
and hold space or the jump button for a tighter turn
turn then drift. I think of the drift as more of a follow-up maneuver to the actual turn. In other words, make a turn like normal and use the drift (jump) button to manage the turn radius.
Want a tighter turn? As soon as you start turning, drift until you’re able to release the drift button and proceed forward.
Want a shallow turn? Only press the drift button as the vehicle starts to near the edges of the turn radius.
It does take time, and my primacy defaults to how the GW2 roller beetle’s drifting mechanism worked. There, you start a turn, similar to WoW, but to drift, you’d push the reverse or backpedal key, which started the beetle drifting, and then you’d control the amount or ‘depth’ (i guess) of the drift from there.

Doesn’t need to have a channel, just something that acts as a drift function.
I use consoleport and play with a pad, I have 2 empty slots so I know they can do this. Skyriding is fantastic, DRIVE however, needed more time in the oven

Yeah, two empty buttons. I play on controller too and when I got the hang of it it was great, but that jumping thing was always a constant annoyance.
Literally any other button would’ve been fine.
Totally agreee, this is such a stupid design, and why do we even need this car to be able to jump anywhy?
I love D.R.I.V.E system! But even I think the spacebar as jump/drift was a bad move.

It works for me when I start turning and then press space
This wouldn’t even be an issue if we could just rebind the jump key specifically for Drive. Would make trying to get the gold times in the races a lot less painful honestly.
It feels awful. It should be a handbrake thing like GTA. Hit it then cut the wheel. Someone told me drifting IRL is like that as well. Having to hit the drift after I’ve started turning is maddening. I’m fighting so many years of muscle memory from GTA… and god help me when I finally get the hang of it and want to play GTA6 in a few years. I’ll have to swap my muscle memory again.
Please make drifting work how it should. Brake then turn. Not turn then brake.

Thank you, I wasn’t sure what the word was called but yes GTA had it too.
Season 1 already did that.
I was just thinking a way to improve the car, its own drift button vs the hope I drift/dont’ jump we have now.
