If they don’t do more with the dreadlords in SL, then it’s a huge waste of perfectly good lore. Give us a dreadlord boss in the Sepulcher raid or something.
There’s going to be a fight with Mal’Ganis and Kin’tessa in the raid. I’m not sure what’ll happen to the Dreadlords after this expac.
This is one of the most hilarious retcons in SL for me. They ruined the Dreadlords. They used to be super cool and now they are really lame. We got some questline in Revendreth where they explicitly explained the retcon and that was pretty much it.
They have just been used as a plot device to tie the Jailer to the Legion and Arthas - something that no one likes anyway.
Are they even demons anymore? Like, are we gonna run into Varimathras again a couple expansions down the road because getting tortured by the Legion was all part of the master plan?
They’re not demons by default but they’re close enough if they keep nomming on the fel.
The Legion ones are. That group of dreadlords took in the fel and became actual demons, and have the Twisting Nether weakness too. Practically all of them are permanently dead now through us and what Illidan did. Varimathras was killed on Argus, so he’s not ever coming back.
Mal’Ganis was the only named one who escaped by not showing up. Somehow it looks like he got rid of the fel and returned to his original Death state. And picked up allies with other Death dreadlords too. But same weakness, beings who die in the SL also don’t ever come back. This’ll be his end.
Varimathras was a prisoner being punished. That wasn’t part of anyone’s grand plan, the Legion just didn’t tolerate his failures. Dreadlords don’t control everything
They became demons from fel-infusion, but the ones we see in revendreth don’t look fel-corruoted at all.
They have backs ups. they always have a job lol.
They were working for someone else while working for sire D while working for the legion.
Pretty sure this will become they were working for someone else while working for someone else while working for sire d while working for he legion.
Recontextualizations are often mistaken for Retcons.
I honestly thought the Dreadlords were only loyal to themselves.
Also never could fully understand why they resorted to the Strategy of Resurrecting the corpses of Fallen Highborne as mindless undead 10,000 years ago.
Undead Arriving on Azeroth is certainly nothing new.
Technically? Yes. plenty of Demons in the legion were not originally Demons, and inhuming Fel is known to transform a being into a Demon eventually if absorbed in such a way as to not destroy oneself.
It’s interesting to note that Nathrezim are described as “vampire like” even before the recontextualization.
yeah they were described as Psychic vampires in warcraft 3, whatever that means.
i mean do they eat people? dreams? or souls? it’s a lot scarier when you don’t know how something is trying to devour you
What we do in the Shadows?
perhaps Prince Renethal can bring them into an alliance with mortal races. These "thal'kituun" I feel have some mind control powers as well. They are masters of manipulating and guile
^^ Imps are supposed to be fel-infused grell.
The worst part, IMO… is that NONE OF THIS IS NECESSARY TO THE PLOT!
If the Jailer can just pull places to the maw, and can leave the maw to go to Oribos, or can extend the Maw to Oribos… or just chain and drag in Oribos… then NONE OF THE SL STORY MATTERS!
Apparently at any time he could just go to Oribos with his army of guys, do the thing and Kali Ma Shakti de out the Arbiters heart and be super captain nipples, and from there just do the thing he was already going to do…
Linking and retconning all the WC lore is completely unnecessary, our presence in SL is completely unnecessary, and he would be in an actually much BETTER position than he’s in now if he just never included the Burning Legion, Arthas or any of that in his plans.
New info on stuff we don’t fully know is not really retcons.
A real retcon is saying sargeras corrupted the eredar, when it was said to be the other way around before.
old wow good. new wow bad. cmon you have enough posts to know that its not about logic, its about dunking on the new thing using buzzwords.
Please, stop.
There are some actual Dreadlord retcons though.
They had their own homeworld with an advanced civilization on Nathreza, but it turns out that wasn’t a thing. I believe a boss in Antorus opens a portal there but I forget her name at the moment.
The Dreadlords completely destroyed Suramar in War of the Ancients, killing everyone there to the last man and raised them as Zombies… but we now know that didn’t happen because Nightborne are decidedly not 10,000 year old Legion Zombies.
No Dreadlord can harm another, which is why Varimathras attacking Balnazar was a big thing, but Balnazar was ok with trying to murder Lothraxion… and since Balnazar just reformed in the nether after his death anyways he wasn’t even really harmed by Varimathras killing him, which kind of begs the question of why Varimathras was super-tortured for following the plan which must have been orchestrated to that end anyways… but then it begs the further question of Varimathras taking over the Undercity after the Wrathgate if Captain Nipples was already winning with his champion Arthas… why orchestrate or at best passively allow a plaguebombing and almost kill Arthas, your bosses champion.
The retcon is bad…
Imagine, playing some a complex scheme spanning multiple expansions, plots on plots in motion… and yet, you still don’t even know who is that one vessel to which the whole plan depends.
Was Anduin even a gleam in his Daddy’s eye when this Master Plot began?
