My first (admittedly cynical) reaction is, “Did David Tennant need a job or something?”
Don’t get me wrong - he’s my favorite Doctor since Tom Baker, and I think Donna is one of the best companions in the series - but it’s been something like 10 years since we’ve seen either of them.
Why now? What happened?

It does seem a bit random to now jump back to such an old story arc. Maybe they want to try to reignite some past fans to come back- I like Jodie/Peter a lot but the show did start to feel a bit different.
